Take with a grain of salt, because of the lack of sourcing. But worth posting anyway...

Coco Crisp is nearing an agreement with the Athletics on a one-year deal in the $5MM range, MLBTR has learned. The deal will include an option for 2011. Crisp had been talking to the Padres as well, and his agent Steve Comte expected a decision before Christmas.

Crisp, 30, tallied only 215 plate appearances with the Royals this year due to shoulder injuries. He had surgery on both shoulders during the summer and plans to be ready for Spring Training.

Given his salary, Crisp figures to be penciled in as the starting center fielder in Oakland. Scott Hairston, Rajai Davis, and Ryan Sweeney would battle for playing time in the other two spots, unless someone is traded.

I don't understand this signing for the A's at all . I would not be surprised to see Davis being shipped to be the northside before the weekend is over. Getting a cheap Cf'er gives me hope Hendry will upgrade the middle infield with the free agent market flooded with upgrades.

I wouldn't mind looking into seeing what it'd cost to pry Davis away from them at this point.

It'd have to be really cheap, I think. Davis had a really nice year last season, but it was propped up by an abnormally high BABIP (.366 vs a career .332). He only had 29 walks last season, so most of his OBP was because of hits - and that would drop if his BABIP decreases.

His defense in center is nice (12.0 career UZR/150), but I think I'd prefer to keep trying for Nyjer Morgan.

5m is way too much for a guy coming off an injury riddled season in which he only played in 50 games. Makes me think Byrd won't have any trouble getting 8-9 from someone.

Yeah, 5 mill for Crisp seems pretty high. Maybe it's because he only got one year? Not that I would have expected a team to sign him for anything more than that, considering he's coming off the injury......

At any rate, the market is odd. Crisp gets 5, but Cameron only gets 7.75? Podsednik wants 3/12 supposedly and Byrd wants 3/24 or so. And Ankiel supposedly is asking for the moon. What do they wind up with? No clue, because I'm not all that sure we have many teams even looking at any of them.

My guess is Byrd gets 2/14 or 3/20, Podsednik gets 2/6 and Ankiel signs a 1 year deal somewhere, for worlds less than what he or Boras are thinking......
