I hear all this talk about a new DC but nothing yet about Babich being fired. What did he even do for the team this past year with Lovie calling plays?

Titular defensive coordinator, actually just linebackers coach.

His contract expired.

Got it. Thanks.

Martz blew the doors off the Lions offense he went to detroit. They had a crappy oline and journey man qb in kitna and they threw up a lot of yards and points. The year after he left Detroits offense hit the crapper. Warner got sacked a little more under Martz than at Arizona but not enough to go crazy about. The ints were a little higher in STL but again not earth shattering. Martz would probably utilize Forte's pass catching skills and under utilize Olsens (unless he puts him in the slot ala Dallas Clark). Bears could sign Martz probably for 1 or 2 years at the most and if doesnt work out all that great no biggie, if it does hes a lifer as he wont be getting another HC in the NFL again. I dont care about the running game so much anyway, running game is only important for short yardage and redzone and thats more of an emphasis on the oline talent than the play calling. Turner is gone and Martz would be a huge upgrade.

So, I think I like Bates. Unfortunately, the only ties he has to the Bears are thru Cutler. I don't know that the Bears will (or should) give Cutler any chance to make suggestions. In a perfect world, Bates would be the QB coach w/ another OC. But again, I don't see that happening without Shanahan, Kubiak, or somebody that worked with him in Denver coming along with him.

But I say bite the bullet, go with Bates as OC and hope he brings Shanahan/Kubiak's playbook with him. Weis could be fun also, but again I see no ties there. Lovie hasn't proved he's a guy that would like to share the spotlight w/ a coach that has experienced success at the NFL level.

I hear papers shuffling, Ted Phillips is batting leadoff.

starts with saying frustrating season to say the least, inconsistent play both sides of ball, praises passion of fans

status quo not an option, changes are necessary, it's difficult with coaches who took team to super bowl

last three years no one did a good enough job in this organization, not asking for patience, committed to putting winning team together, fastest way to improve is keeping continuity, with Jerry and Lovie.

Phillips has to sugar coat to an extent, but I'm really annoyed at some of the nonsense he's spewing. Nobody has consistent success in this league? There's a lot of teams with a lot more consistent success than the Bears have had (hint, they are all QB-centric pass happy teams).

Yeah, this is really a load crap from top to bottom. What I'm getting is that nothing will really be done different, but we're going to call it "big changes." People will be brought in, but to do things exactly the same way Lovie has been doing them all along.

Oh, and money has nothing to do with why Lovie and Jerry are still here. Yeah, sure. And I'm Santa Claus.

Phillips is horrible. Money has nothing to do with these decisions. We are not rewarding medicority. BS.

He has to say that. Money was obviously part of it, and it should be. But you can't say "part of the reason they are still here is because of money." It effectively makes them all lame ducks with no power, real or imagined. You have to sell it as a football decision.

And he just said the coordinators that will be brought in will follow the system Lovie wants.

I know I said otherwise at the time but I kinda wish we lost that Minnesota game after hearing this press conference.

I mean on one hand, I understand the need for continuity between seasons, shaking up your whole team every year is not going to get you anywhere most of the time. But this team needs a lot of help, and I feel like the last 2 games really gave them a sense that the team is on the right track and just needs new coaching and a few minor changes.

"Those last few games were important for us."

Damn it, now I wish Minnesota had made that damn extra point.

I don't think Lovie was going to be canned if they lost that game, so I don't mind it so much. If anything it helped in the development of Cutler, sending him off on a good note.

the wanting to stay consistant garbage is just that, garbage. they've had the same GM, head coach, offensive coordinator and essentially defensive coordinator (Lovie) the last several years. it's not like they are the raiders/browns/etc.

*note, i'm not listening to the presser. this is just based on what i'm getting from your posts.
