Bears coach Lovie Smith is not scheduled to face the press Monday at Halas Hall as he will be in a meeting for most of the day with general manager Jerry Angelo and members of the Bears' hierarchy.

Players will be able to talk about their 7-9 season as they clean out their lockers after doing exit interviews, but no indication will be given about the future leadership of the organization.

It is expected that Smith will return for a seventh season in 2010, but nothing is guaranteed. The Bears will conduct end-of-season meetings before assessing the year. Team officials said to expect a news conference early in the week -- probably Tuesday or Wednesday -- at which point club leaders will address the future.

The Bears passed on both Ray Rice and Jamaal Charles to get Matt Forte. What an amazing organization we have.

Neither of whom are really anything special either.

A lot of people passed on them. Who knows what either of them do with the Bears offense and blocking. They'd probably suck too.

Chris Johnson when just a few picks before Forte that draft. Now that would have really been nice.

Ron Turner expects to be back.

http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/01/ron-turner-expects-to-return-as-coordinator.html

"We had a lot of young guys, a lot of new guys in the lineup, and as the season went on they got better,'' Turner said. "They continued to progress. As they played better, (Jay Cutler) played better, or his numbers looked better anyway, and that's to be expected. We had a lot of young guys that were learning on the job and growing up and developing.''

Does this loser ever stop making excuses?

This makes me sick. If they bring this idiot back, throw away next year as well. Since we're probably going to be stuck with Lovie's defense, getting Turner's offense as well will do us in. He's the one coaching the terrible receivers, horrible offensive line, and reckless QB. Let's give credit where credit is due.

i guess you can say the book's still out on Charles, but Rice does everything great. he's not only a terrific runner, but the best receiving RB in the game and great in protection. he's elite.

Nice backhanded compliment, Ron.

I resigned myself to Lovie being back a while ago but if Turner comes back...ugh.

i don't get this. the steelers took tee martin ahead of tom brady and they're like the best organization in NFL history.

I'm still red-faced that the Cubs passed on Pujols 9 times.

Ray Rice is very, very good. ~2000 yards from scrimmage, 5.3 yards per attempt. Charles is explosive as hell and will get tons of fantasy hype going into next year.

and every single team in the nfl would have taken darren mcfadden far higher than either of them. like i said, i don't get it.

drafting matt forte ahead of rice and charles is not something bears fans should be red-assed over.

This is a big reason why Darren McFadden is terrible.

davis is an old, incontinent man. but he is not why mcfadden sucks.

You're right. He has a lot more to do with why this guy constantly throws picks.

but this is awesome. jay cutler comes to the bears and has a terrible year, yet still manages to throw more tds than all but 2 people in bears history, for more yards than all but 1 player in bears history, more tds than ints, while completing more than 60% of his passes.

what's going to happen if his line and receiving corp improve?

Forte did have a better rookie season than either of them, but a lot of that was because Forte became the starter right away. Both Rice and Charles are better than Forte, each averaged almost two yards a carry more this season. That said, I'm sure blocking/playcalling has a lot to do with it, although the Chiefs don't exactly have a great offense either. And like others said, we don't nearly have it as bad as the Raiders do right now with McFadden. Forte's 1400 yards from scrimmage this year wasn't bad, but the 3.5 ypc left a lot to be desired.

I thought this was funny (and telling)

One former Bears offensive player who played under Turner told the Tribune last week he was watching the Bears and was amused how many plays he could predict based on formation and field position. Imagine how opposing defensive coordinators must feel preparing for an offense lacking innovation.

Probably Muhsin, and it wouldn't be the first time hes thrown the Bears' offense under the bus.

but what i'm saying is that it's dumb to be pissed at something like the bears passing on two backs that other teams passed over to take a back that was rated higher on most boards when there are far greater things to be pissed off at the organization about.

they passed on chris johnson and twice on desean jackson, too. do you want to talk about those guys as well?

I'm sure they had an idea going in that they were going to draft o-line with the first pick, so taking Chris Williams instead of Chris Johnson doesn't really bother me. By the time their 2nd rounder came up, Johnson was already gone. So I guess I'm just wondering what they saw in Forte that they liked over Rice and Charles.

Not really throwing the Bears' offense under the bus.

i don't know, they thought he'd be better?

good luck playing the hindsight game, though. i'm sure they were higher on your board.

I didn't see the game yesterday but in the highlights it seemed like they had Cutler rolling out more- and by more I mean more than once. I've heard several analysts say that Cutler is better when he's on the move and I'm wondering if Turner finally figured that out.
