I'm not exactly sure why an undefeated Texas team should inherently take precedence over an undefeated TCU team. Other than BCS conference bias and name recognition.

That's about it. They smoked Oklahoma St. but who cares? TCU has the better resume IMO. If you squint a little, you could probably put them ahead of Florida.

To be fair, it looks like every computer ranking(Sagarin isn't loading right now) has them 4th or worse.

Clausen got his ass kicked in a bar fight.

http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2009/11/david-kaplan-report-clausen-in-fight-outside-south-bend-bar.html

Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen was involved in a fight outside a South Bend bar early Sunday morning, according to a report Monday evening by WGN-AM's David Kaplan.

According to Kaplan, Clausen has two black eyes from the altercation at around 2:30 a.m. Sunday. The incident comes on the heels of the Irish's overtime loss to Connecticut, their fifth of the season, leaving Notre Dame at 6-5.

His offensive line was out with him, but...ya know.

That's gotta be the worst All Big-10 team in a while. There may not be a starting NFL player on that list.

If you're talking about skill positions offensively, sure. But it's lunacy to think there aren't 5 future starters on the o-line and defense.

ESPN's Joe Schad reports that Clausen was sucker-punched by a fan (ergo, didn't do anything wrong) while out to dinner with his parents. But why should Chicago news report the truth when they can insinuate something about ND's quarterback?

Yeah, but only because they all got stoned in the grotto first.

They are the type of people who call every meal dinner.

A sucker punch gave him 2 black eyes?

The Tribune's Brian Hamilton reports that a South Bend police spokesman said Monday no police reports were filed over the weekend that involved Clausen. The particulars of the confrontation are thus unclear, though a person answering the phone at CJ's, the bar in question, said the incident "absolutely did not take place inside the bar."

As of right now you have Kaplan and nobody else talking about it.

you really need to get over this "everyone is out to get notre dame" thing.

Andy can be paranoid, but it's David [expletive] Kaplan. Why is he a more reliable source than Schad?

Yeah. Honestly, I don't think any of us would be surprised if Kaplan was completely wrong. I'm sure more will come out soon enough.

I was just annoyed. I guess just like I'm likely to immediately assume the guy (who was apparently an ND alum) who punched him instigated everything, everyone else is probably (and not entirely without merit) assume Clausen is going to start stuff.

September 4th, 2010 can't come soon enough.

So, does TCU make the championship game if Texas were to lose this week or in the Big 12 championship?

I think they should be in the championship game whether Texas loses or not.

But, that obviously won't happen. You think we could actually see a team outside the power conferences make the championship game this year?

I'd absolutely put TCU in the title game if Texas slips up. Their SOS is just as good as Cincinnati's and they blasted BYU and Utah, their two biggest games. It would take Cincinnati beating Pittsburgh in a similar fashion in two weeks for me to change my mind.

i'd say beating clemson on the road was more impressive than beating utah at home. clemson is now up to 8-3 and ranked #15/16 in the polls.

tcu this is reminds me of utah in alex smith's last year there; undefeated and ranked in the top 5 not because they play in a "soft" conference, but because they're that good. i'd love to see tcu play the loser of the sec title game, but it probably won't shake out that way. most projections i've seen have tcu playing the winner of the acc (hopefully ga tech) in the orange bowl. it would be awful if clemson won the acc and we got a clemson-tcu rematch.

Didn't realize that Clemson was up that high in the polls and going to the ACC title game. That just makes TCU's case even stronger.

Shipley, Barnes, and Tate are the finalists for the Biletnikoff. It's insanity that Alexander wasn't even a semifinalist, never mind a finalist over at least Shipley and Barnes.

Barnes was putting up some pretty sick numbers, but suddenly Alexander has just 71 less yards and 2 less TDs than him and Barnes has 37 more catches. It's going to be a travesty when Shipley wins the award because he goes to Texas.

i don't even know who dave kaplan is, but he reported that clausen was in an altercation and had a black eye, which is true, so what's the problem.

he reported that clausen was in a bar fight at 2:30 am on Sunday. Whether that's true or not remains to be seen. i have no idea which is closer to the truth, schad or kaplan, but kaplan's reputation isn't sparkling.

ETA: much better source: http://notredame.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1020542

i'm not sure when they were leaving or if they had dinner or just drinks after dinner, but he was walking out with his parents and some teammates to meet his brothers, who were in the parking lot, when a guy sucker punched him.

jeez - how many locals would sucker punch the best QB to ever play for their school? i hate south bend

And Barnes has been putting up his numbers going through the MAC. He combined averaged 7 catches for 47 yards against the two legit teams BG has played(Boise State and Mizzou).

Shipley's special teams probably gives him a boost even though it shouldn't for this award.
