so what was the story with S. Carolina's uniforms? Why did they replace player names with adjectives?

It was some sort of Military day. Probably has something to do with Camp Lejeune being in SC.

They looked terrible (particularly the bizarre sleeves)

Now that I've had my emotional outburst I still think Iowa makes the BCS. I don't think they'll drop out of the top 14 and I think they could still get to the top 12 if enough teams lose when they are off.

EDIT: Ok I don't officially know BCS rules but I still think they get in.

Assuming Iowa wins next week, which isn't a given.

They will.

barring some major upsets, we win we're in the bcs.

Unless they go to the rose bowl they should not make the BCS.

Good to know. Texas has no business in the title game if Cincy wins out either.

they looked like a monochromatic version of Death Cab For Cutie's latest album cover.

Miss State's black jerseys look dumb, but the team does not.

but the school is

you know how espn does lead-ins (after commercials) about the location where the game is being played? a few weeks ago when mississippi st was playing, one of the lead-ins they did in the second quarter was of a prison in starkville. i though to myself, starkville must suuuuuuuuuuck.

Camp Lejeune is in North Carolina, not South Carolina.

It's pretty much in the middle of a cow pasture, thus all the cowbells. It's a terrible town full of the biggest rednecks in the state that actually go to college. Ole Miss has the state's Law School, Med School, and Pharmacy School. MS State on the other hand is pretty much an agricultural school full of ugly women.

Yea I was thinking of Parris Island.

I think you just described Iowa State.

what a terrible season. part of it makes me rethink mangino as our head coach. When you facotr in our talent level (which is high for KU football), this season has been of the all-around worst displays of football I've seen.

It'll be interesting. Reesing will be gone, Sharp will be gone, Meier will be gone, and because of that I assume Briscoe will go. Their o-line returns completely intact, but in the few games I've seen they haven't impressed much (though obviously another year of experience helps). They'll probably have to lean on the run more while easing Pick in, but without the big time WR talent it'll be tough.

Seems like they lose a lot of experienced depth on the defense too, but are losing two defensive starters and Darrell Stuckey. It'll probably be another down year for Kansas, but they're bringing in a solid 2010 class so far it looks like. However, you have to wonder how long they will stick with Mangino, considering this was supposed to be his most talented team and it looks like they'll go into the last game of the year needing a win to get bowl eligible.

It would seem pretty ridiculous to get rid of Mangino after the season they had in 2007. On the other hand, it's kind of looking like those years were a perfect confluence of teams being flabbergasted by a wide open spread passing attack--same deal with Mizzou. That edge has been diminished a lot.

Yeah, but the result of that year was both teams being able to recruit a hell of a lot better than they were. Both schools are finally doing a really good job of securing their own in-state talent, while finally being able to land some of the bigger names in their pipelines as well. They might never be staples in the top-10, but both could and should be top-25 teams for quite some time, IMO.

i think we discussed in one of these threads the worst places to go in the bcs conferences. if i remember correctly there was good agreement on:

acc: nowhere really that bad... maybe va tech (blacksburg)

big east: uconn (storrs)

big ten: indiana (bloomington) and purdue (e. lafayette)

big xii: iowa st (ames), kansas st (manhattan), texas tech (lubbock), baylor (waco), maybe okie st (stillwater) too?

pac 10: wazzu (pullman)... maybe oregon st (corvallis)?

sec: miss st (starkville)

Bloomington isn't that bad. Maybe not bustling but a decent little town. West Lafayette is a freaking hole.

i can only speak on behalf of the big 12, but all the SIDs i worked with say that manhattan is the worst, followed by lubbock, then ames. waco's probably after that. i don't know a ton about stillwater. i've been to lincoln, which is kind of boring but seems mostly alright, and lawrence which seemed pretty similar to columbia. my problem with lawrence is that the campus is built on a hill and i'm fat so it was a bitch walking to and from the stadium.

Stillwater fits as a cowtown. The people there take that as a compliment.

never mind

cripes. I'm a huge fan of Weis and I'll always be thankful for what he did for ND. But he has to be fired. How do you let a guy rush the punter all out in that situation?

That was a horse [expletive] roughing call though. In an unrelated story, Pitt has a chance at an at-large BCS bid and more money for the Big East.
