Let's say we sign Cameron to play center, could Jake Fox play right well enough to platoon with Kosuke in right? That way we wouldn't have to pay extra for a Kosuke platoon partner.

I guess if Ben Grieve and Micah Hoffpauir can "play" the position, then I supposed Fox can to. Ultimately, it wouldn't surprise me if Fox is dealt to an AL team.

Yeah, I can see Fox being dealt to the AL. Who wants to bet it's the O's and the return is not Brian Roberts?

I'm just wondering if his offensive production vs lefties would be good enough to offset his defense in right. And with the cash crunch the team has, I'd be a bit surprised if Fox is dealt this offseason.

I would think Fox will be traded this offseason to an AL team. He doesn't really have a spot on the Cubs and I think the opponent's pitching started to show his weaknesses toward the end of the season. Now is the time to trade him while teams can remember the success he had this year.

I don't see anyone giving up anything significant for Fox, so to me, he's an ideal and cheap candidate to fill out the 25th spot on the roster.

Matt Diaz is a similar player, although maybe a little better fielder, whereas Fox can play several positions, albeit not very well. Diaz was cut from a few different teams before Atlanta gave him an opportunity for some playing time, which turned into an actual platoon since his bat was better than advertised.

If you can't get the return you deserve for Fox, you might as well keep him.

I agree, guys like Fox and Hoffpauir are cheap alternatives to guys like Cliff Floyd and Daryl Ward. I never see the point in signing free agents to fill those kind of roster spots, when you have "AAAA" type players who at least deserve the chance to earn the job. Otherwise, there will be plenty of FA vets or guys available through trade at the end of spring training if your guys dont work out. If anything, he could be an enticing throw in as part of another trade.

Obviously, Fox would be part of a package deal to an AL team that has the need for a DH/1B/3B.
