It was totally a salary dump. I don't disagree. But that Hendry valued Mike Lowell over someone like Ramirez is further proof that Hendry did not work any magic. It was laid in his lap and he only had to give up Jose Hernandez, Matt Bruback and a PTBNL to make it happen. Pittsburgh even added cash to the deal.

Bobby Freaking Hill, man. I still miss him.

Enough to want his jersey?

I'd mail it to you, but I'm holding out hope that the Cubs trade Mike Fontenot to Toronto for Aaron Hill, and Aaron Hill takes Fontenot's number, which was also Bobby Hill's number.

We knew Rich Hill would never don such a low number in a Cub uniform.

Then stop by his work. Walmarts open 24/7

At the time Lowell was a pretty good third baseman at the time and there were plenty of people who doubted Aramis. Hendry actually went against the tide a bit in trading for Aramis - I remember a number of "experts" weren't crazy about him (the lazy stuff was pretty big at the time).

Lowell OPSd .881 in 2003 and .816 in 2002. He was down in 2001, but OPSd .818 in 2000. Aramis OPSd .885 in 2001, but hadn't been above .695 otherwise before 2003. He OPSd .778 in 2003. Lowell was only 29 in 2003, so he wasn't likely to fall off a cliff all that soon.

I loved Aramis and was completely in favor of acquiring him, but Lowell was also a good option and probably better for a team in contention in 2003.

Part of me is so sick of the idiots who think that Bradley needs to be gone no matter what and that any alternative to him will be acceptable that I want his replacement to be someone as useless as Sarge Junior. Just out of spite.

While I agree, I dont think its us(the fans) who feel that way, its more that weve pretty much accepted than management feels that way and they want him out no matter what so we just want the best return possible, and Gary Jr. is far, far from that.

I would disagree and say that the vast majority of Cubs fans want Bradley gone no matter what comes back in return.

Yeah, I get that impression as well.

I think its 50/50. I dont think theres anyone who wants to just ship him out, eat the contract and get nothing. Id really rather give him 1 more year, especially with Rudy J coming on board, I really wish theyd just give him one more chance to se what he can do with him. On the other hand, with Rudy supposedly being the Dave Duncan of hitting coaches, it would also be interesting to see what he could do with someone like Jeremy Hermida or Pat Burrell, neither of whom ever did reach their potential. As for Sarge Jr. not so much.

I think there's a hell of a lot of people that would be more than happy to see them simply release him and owe all the money.

Yup plenty of Cubs fans just want him gone, no matter the return and no matter the cost.

Your appraisal of the Cubs' fanbase is WAY too generous.

Lowell was highly sought after that summer.
