Is it financially realistic at all for the Bulls to end up with both Bosh and Johnson (if the latter is even looking outside of Atlanta) if they can move Hinrich or Deng or would they have to move both guys?

If we actually landed either Bosh or Wade I'd be pleasantly surprised. That would be a very nice turn of events for this franchise, I think.

I was wondering about this under a slightly different scenario.

If the Bulls were to trade for Bosh during the season, would they have Larry Bird rights or does the player have to be there for a full season?

If the Bulls had those rights, could they sequence things so that they signed Johnson first and then re-signed Bosh to exceed the cap?

Was creating a game on jawdle.com for the bulls first round picks during the 2000's. I can't believe they had the following draft picks from 2000 - 2006 and didn't get a single all-star appearance from any of these players:

2000: #4

2001: #4

2002: #2

2003: #7

2004: #3

2005: none

2006: #2

Drafting that high in that many years without hitting a single all-star takes particular skill.

And some bad luck. The Bulls got high picks in some pretty crappy drafts. Plus the whole Jay Williams thing.

If it was just a couple years they had high picks, I could buy that. But they had a top 4 pick five times! Plus a top seven pick thrown in. To completely whiff on finding a single all-star is more than a bit of bad luck.

Williams wasn't overly impressive in his rookie year, either, though it is tough to say how he would have developed without the accident.

Fizer - bust, bad draft pick

Curry - part of the infamous Chandler/Curry HS gamble, I don't know if it was bad scouting, bad, cs coaching or if it was just that these are just risky picks that failed. Also one of the weakest drafts ever. But we gave up Brand in this draft so it's a net huge loss.

Williams - Not really our fault, we told him not to ride a motorcycle

Hinrich - Horrible luck. Bulls finished really strong that year and got the 7 pick. Before their pick: LeBron, Anthony, Wade, Bosh. After (best players): David West, Josh Howard. That's honestly it. Horrible luck there.

Gordon - Was a fine pick, maybe not for number 3 but the draft was a little weak. Devin Harris, Al Jefferson, Iguodala, Josh Smith and Kevin Matin drafted after, but none of them is outrageously ahead of Gordon on talent, if at all.

None

Thomas - Yeah this was pretty bad. We drafted Aldridge to trade for him, but the thing is everyone thought we needed Aldridge and Thomas was a much bigger project. They said Aldridge's ceiling is lower than Thomas' but the risk is less and he fits a need. Was highly questionable at the time and looks even worse now even though Tyrus isn't as horrible as people seem to think.

Some were horrible picks, some were horrible luck, some were in the middle. I don't think drafting consistently high in the draft isn't the lock people make it out to be.

on the espn chicago front page, it states that wade is the bulls' #1 target. insider article, though.

You can see where this is going. The Bulls throw all the eggs in Wade's basket, Bosh gets traded/signs somewhere before Wade does anything, and Wade eventually reups with Miami and it will never be clear if he had even considered Chicago at all.

I'm just saying there was some slight misfortune on missing out on the really good draft classes like 2003. Lots of getting the 4th pick in a 3 player draft, that sorta thing. Obviously there were some huge missteps as well.

The 2000 draft was legitimately atrocious (maybe the worst of all time), 2001 was pretty bad, 2002 was fairly brutal, 2003 they had the 7th pick in probably the greatest top 6 ever (outside of Darko of course), 2004 they actually did well, no pick in 05, 2006 is looking like a bust but is otherwise a crappy draft. 07-09 look promising.

I'm not really upset about losing out on Aldridge as I am about Thomas being such a knucklehead. There's a devastatingly effective player somewhere in there. Aldridge is just another guy, IMO.

Now Brandon Roy would've been nice.

I'm concerned Tyrus is one of those guys who you trade and then he wakes up and becomes a good player. But you have to trade him for him to get the message, so he'll continue to be inconsistent with the Bulls.

Argh.

Tyrus is what is whether it is with the Bulls or another team. He is 10-15 ppg (mostly on put back and alley oops) 10 rpg, 2 spg. Is that going to be worth $10 million? No. If the Bulls don't think he is worth that deal, then they should trade Thomas.

Just like Cedric Benson (except that he wasn't traded).

It's true that the Bulls haven't had an All-Star since the Jordan years right?

Yup. Only the Warriors have a longer streak (1997 vs. 1998)

Ellis is All-Star quality. Injuries have kept him down. Baron Davis was never an All-Star?

Not with Golden State. He was a 2 time all star with the Hornets and not since.

Argh, I wanted Roy so badly.

yes, they would have his bird rights and yes, i believe that they could sign johnson and then bosh and exceed the cap. however, that would be pretty risky and they may end up losing out on both and losing whomever they trade for him.

That would all depend on what they have to trade to get Bosh. If Toronto would mainly be looking for expiring contracts in return, then there really wouldn't be any additional risk. If they're looking to get good young players and picks, then there's a lot of additional risk if he's not re-signed.

Is anyone watching this Gilbert Arenas debate on the Bulls/Cavs pregame on TNT? That was freaking hilarious. Barkley sounded drunk whilst talking about his DUI.

I just assume Charles is loaded any time I see him on TV.

Bulls should be able to win tonight with the Celtics on a back to back and injured. Looks like they have no legs.

Charles was slurring his words worse than usual. It was awesome.

But yeah, the Bulls look strong right now but they'll find a way to lose. I have no faith.
