Why would the Bulls ever want to go after McGrady? Does anyone think he will ever be his old self?

Think about it for 2 seconds.

 

It has nothing to do with what anyone thinks he can still do as a player.

 

I assume you are talking about an expiring contract. But what are the chances that the Bulls don't actually end up signing a good free agent and then just go ahead and resign McGrady in the offseason if they make a trade? That would scare me if I were a fan and they were talking about trading for such a guy.

There's a million things the Bulls could do stupidly in the offseason. Right now I want them to just dump contracts. I highly doubt they'll resign McGrady given his obvious decline and how shittily he'll probably play the rest of this year. Yeah, the Bulls are run by morons, but McGrady would have to have a pretty incredible turnaround for the front office to look at him as opposed to all the other much better names that are going to be out there.

Are we really clearing any more cap room under the rumored terms wrt to TMac? It seems like the deal is to insure that we don't have to pay Salmons next year if he decides to opt in.

Is that really a legit concern? I think even if McGrady does amazing averages 25/6/6 the rest of the season and the Bulls advance to game 7 of the first round (the farthest in the playoffs a team who is playing with TMac is allowed to advance), I still think at worst they target him as a secondary signing to their big FA (Bosh, Wade, Boozer, etc). Even if McGrady posts the above numbers, he's not going to get anywhere near a max deal with all the issues. Even if he posts those numbers, the Bulls are not going to all the sudden overlook all the issues he's had as well as his age and throw the farm at him. I am pretty sure the Bulls would exhaust every other FA option before attempting to resign McGrady, and even if they do, he's not going to get a franchise crippling contract from the Bulls or any other team in this economy, IMO.

 

And to the above poster, yes the number 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8, and 9 reasons the Bulls are interested in McGrady are for his expiring deal, but the Bulls also have significant interest in him because he probably has the highest upside of any expiring available deal. If they make trades to get rid of Hinrich, Salmons and Miller lets say, they need something back to finish out the season respectable.

Bulls have fallen out of consideration for TMac and Houston focus on negotiating draft pick protection to complete NY deal, sources say.

 

 

Does anyone know what the Bulls are going to do before the deadline now?

Bulls management has told Salmons to remain at team hotel as it works to finalize a trade. Won't play vs. Knicks.

That's a bummer.

 

I'm slightly surprised that we can't unload Hinrich...he's been playing well and seems like he's exactly what the Lakers need plus he's got a declining contract.

 

People are probably hung up on his overall numbers he was probably the worst player in the league the first month of the season.

What the hell are the Clips doing here?

 

Salary dump. They can offer a near max deal now with only Gordon, Kaman, Griffin, Davis, and a pick under contract for next year. If they weren't the Clippers I'd say they've got a potentially very good core.

 

They'll be tanking the rest of the year for sure now.

If I were LeBron, I would be looking at this option. You are in L.A. and you have a good core around you. Although you would probably tear your brain just thinking about it.

Love the trade. Obviously the situation with Amar'e had more potential, but I think this one will work out better in the end. We only give up big Z and a 1st rounder. If it all plays out right, we get big Z back. We keep Hickson. Great deal for the Cavs. I haven't really kept up to date with Sebastian over the past few years. Is he officially a dead project?

Those are good reasons. I am talking about the Bulls getting McGrady just because they think he is going to be with them long term as their power forward. As in a see how good he is this year and then sign him to a long-term deal.
