Look at that Tigers roster. There are 6 players who've done anything of worth since then (Pena, Inge, Infante, Rodney, Bonderman, Young)

yeah and carlos pena hadn't become good yet and bonderman was something like 20 years old. mostly that team was a combination of washed-up veterans (higginson) and young guys who wouldn't pan out (most of the offense and bullpen), and the starting rotation was a bunch of AAAA pitchers. that team was brutal. a team obp is Godawful for a national league team; for a team with a DH it's horrific. they also had 764 strikeouts in 1438 IP, which has to be one of the worst k-rates in modern baseball and goes to speak for the complete lack of quality arms. their "ace" going into the year was nate cornejo, who had a spectacular 2.1 K's per 9 IP.

earl weaver could've squeezed about 50 wins out of that club, i think.

Here's the important thing. Of Ryno, Bob, and Alan... we know for a fact that Ryno and Bob still want to do very stupid things, and do them very often.

Alan may be as bad as them, but he'd be hard pressed to be much worse... and maybe, just maybe, he'll be better.

Is there any indication that Trammell wouldn't have the same Olde Thyme hit and run, bunt in the 1st inning, play the gritty players philosophy that everyone else has?

Is there any indication that he would? The only managing job he had was with a team that was rivaled in lack of healthy talent only by the 2009 Nationals.

We don't know how Trammell would do for a full season as Cubs' manager, but it was under his watch when the Cubs turned around the 2007 season (the turnaround coincided with Lou's suspension and Trammell's stint as acting manager).
