Myles Brand Dies

NCAA President Myles Brand, former President of Indiana University, died today of pancreatic cancer. Brand is probably best known (and hated) for being the man who fired Bob Knight as IU basketball coach.

Wow two celebrities of pancreatic cancer in two days. I met him and interviewed him a couple years ago when he attended the IU vs. Ball State football game. Seemed like a pretty good guy.

he interviewed for the presidency of rutgers and my dad was on the committee... this was while he was still president of IU. my dad said he was a very impressive candidate but his name was leaked and he withdrew from consideration.

He was the president when I was at IU. He was actually, very involved in the campus and I met him at least once and saw him several times. I don't fault him at all for getting rid of Coach Knight. It was a move he had to make and a move that was long overdue, IMO.

I met him during my school years too. Yeah I never hated the guy. I just wish the coaching transition could have been handled differently. Between Mike Davis and Bill Lynch the word "interim coach" scares the crap out of me.

R.I.P. I've heard good things about the man, but didn't like him running the NCAA. Way too much bad stuff was happening and he looked the other way a lot.
