So...despite the sky is falling attitude of late, the Blackhawks are about to be tied for the one seed. (Yes, I have the same concerns as everyone else, but I was just pointing that out for perspective.)

Thank you.

Wow, I completely stopped following the standings during the 3 game losing streak. I just assumed that the Sharks were running away with the 1 seed.

I didnt watch the whole game last night, but what I did watch I thought the Hawks did a great job of not having defensive lapses. Almost like they were over compensating for injured dmen and bad goaltending. I think this style may look sluggish, but might be the best remedy to get their confidence back.

I agree. I didn't see the third period, but that's exactly how I saw it. They clamped down extra well and got good efforts from the guys who needed to step up.

to be honest i think i want the 2nd seed, not first.

That's a good point. Detroit is sitting at the 8 seed right now but I'd like the 1 seed because I don't think Detroit will end up in the 8 seed and in the second round I'd like to avoid Vancouver.

EDIT: Now that I think about it though, if Phoenix keeps playing well and they catch the Sharks then we could be looking at potentially having to go through San Jose and Detroit in the first two rounds as the 1 seed and that is scary.

The Hawks have now clinched a better record than Columbus. Were they in the East, they would have clinched a playoff spot last night.

If the Hawks are the #1 seed, they will play whoever is the lowest remaining seed. The current matchups are:

1. Blackhawks

8. Wings

2. Sharks

7. Predators

3. Canucks

6. Kings

4. Coyotes

5. Avalanche

If one of the #7 Preds or #6 Kings upset the Sharks or Canucks, the Hawks would face them. If seeds hold, then they get the #4 seeded Coyotes (or Sharks in the world where they are caught). Frankly, the coming home-and-home match-up against the Coyotes will have a lot of say over what the seeds are.

If San Jose collapses down the stretch and loses the division lead, I think they'll go out in the first round.

I have been watching the standings, and I've been surprised that the Sharks have been limping along. They're currently on a 4 game bender and their point differential is below both Chicago and Vancouver.

The Canucks and Coyotes have been very strong lately -- both with 7 wins in their last 10 games. Phoenix is on a 7 game winning streak.

I didn't realize how close the Coyotes and Canucks are getting.

Luckily the remaining schedule about these two games against Phoenix isn't too bad.

It would be nice if the Hawks could throw a little cold water on the Coyotes.

Not a great time to be catching them though.

The Sharks have a couple of cupcakes coming up, so taking a two point lead with 71 games played by each would be huge.

still not sure i want the 1 seed (i know that sounds ridiculous)
