that game was badass to see in person. and i was amazed/very impressed at how knowledgeable and into the game the blue jackets fans were. i thought the nhl in columbus wasn't popular, but the fans were pretty hardcore.

Apparently this was heard on ESPN1000, but people on another site claim that they are talking about 2 deals they heard of over the weekend...1 involves Huet & Corey Crawford and the other rumor is the Hawks are looking to acquire a PF. One name that was already postulated amongst Hawks fans is Nathan Horton. I don't know how true this is, but interesting to kick off the 2 week break.

Keep in mind that rosters are frozen, so even "agreements" are fluid.

I know the rosters are frozen, so rumors about the Hawks will preoccupy this thread. So I found it interesting, and it seems the Hawks are planning on not being quiet when the Olympics are over.

There is no way anyone would take Huet.

That's the problem.

Huet isn't *that* bad and he isn't *that* overpaid. He doesn't have trade value, per se, but he's not completely untradeable. Combine him with an asset and he's very movable.

I think you may to have to give me an example of what you are thinking. What asset would motivate a team to take on Huet's contract? For that team to take on 5mill plus in payroll for 2 more years, what would the Hawks have to take back?

Big Hawk fan I workout with was saying the other day something about trading Huet. My response was what team in their right mind would take Huet. His response was, what team in their right mind would sign Huet for 5 million 2 yrs ago. Not exactly comparing apples to apples there, but there are some questionable GMs in the NHL

Sharp+Huet would be a package with positive trade value.

You could throw Huet into a package of prospects if the other team is sending a goalie back with a contract for a couple of years as well. Aliu, Beach, Skille.

Huet is still a legitimate No. 1 goaltender in the NHL, and he's only overpaid by a couple of million a year. If there's a team out there that needs a goalie, we can make it worth their while to eat the little bit he's overpaid if we sweeten the deal.

That said, I'm not sold on Niemi+Crawford or whatever we'd end up with if we traded Huet, so unless we are getting a goalie back, I don't see it happening.

you are probably still going to have to be more specific with an actual trade proposal. I am not sure how any of these situations you are suggesting is really helping the Hawks. Bad goalie with a bad contract and prospect is not going to net good goalie. not sure how giving up sharp without getting equal value forward in return is going to help the team either unless you are bringing back real good goalie.

Well, that goes along with what I said: I don't think he ends up going because there aren't too many upgrades in goal on the trade block.

I'm just saying that I don't think Huet is unmovable if there *were* a good goalie on the trade block. He'd have to be packaged with assets, but it could easily get done. His contract is bad, but it's not *that* bad, and he's a much better goalie that Hawks fans are giving him credit for.

i think Huet is kind of a catch 22 for the hawks. it would net very little in return to move him plus some other asset. for huet to actually develop some trade value, he would have to do well in the playoffs. if that were to happen would the hawks want to trade him?

Huet+Crawford+Versteeg+Skille+1st for Vokoun+Clemmenson

Florida could probably bring in a versteeg level talent and a pick for Vokoun without taking on a bad contract.

We'll see. I bet not.

another factor is this, Versteeg doesnt have the best of contracts either. It isnt an albatross but it is not like the Hawks would be moving a young, productive and cheap forward. In this trade, Florida would be taking on bigger contracts and giving up the best player. The main upside would be a late 1st round pick. I think Florida could do much better if they are serious about moving Vokoun.

even if Florida decides to move Vokoun, they aren't going to want a #1 goalie - Markstrom is an elite G prospect and the future for them

They don't want to rush him. He's still incredibly raw. If they are getting other assets, they won't mind taking back a stopgap.

Nashville signed Rinne to an extension, which means they'll want to get something for soon-to-be FA Ellis. I don't want him, but I'm sure the rumors will be out there.

Perhaps no surprise, but Q basically said today that the #1 job belongs to Niemi for now.

So the Hawks are still practicing during this break? I really hadn't found much to read about them over the last 2 weeks. I thought they all went off and had a vacation, or maybe had a week off and are not practicing to stay sharp for next Tuesday (only 5 more days until Blackhawks hockey!)
