Was a formality, but it's still great to see.

I am assuming since no corresponding move is made, no move is needed this year? Meaning, we can keep Versteeg or whoever else we were thinking of trading to get under the cap.

Edit: Jesse Rogers claimed on ESPN radio that he hears someone is most likely being moved in the next 18hrs. to be cap compliant. However, I think a lot of this is just speculation right now.

If that's the case I'd be willing to bet it's Sopel to Toronto. That's been rumored for awhile.

But I don't think the Hawks would call this press conference and let it get out there that the deals were done unless the cap situation was taken care of. And if there was a trade done, it would have leaked by now.

I noticed the report was Keith was going to get a 13 year contract extention. I guess they don't care about all the flack the league was giving them over the Hossa deal.

They shouldn't care, considering several teams are handing out 10+ year contracts. Plus, the Hossa "problem" was different than just being longterm.

Alright, Nashville is getting a little uppity. Five points behind us in second place. Who do they think they are? Time to remind them tonight.

The runup to the olympics is pretty important with all the home games. We talk a lot about the circus trip, but they still have that ridiculous January trip. And it is ridiculous. There are some ridiculous travels with only one day in between. Ottawa to Calgary? San Jose to Raleigh? Yuck.

Anyway, I know I'm paranoid, but now is the time to pad that lead.

I didn't even realize the Hawks were playing in Pittsburgh tomorrow night until I saw this from Sassone.

And Hradek is yapping about it too over on ESPN.com, including his comment that the Pens were better than the Hawks in every area of the game except maybe defense, where it's a push. Seriously?

I hope the team doesn't see that bulletin board material until after tonight's game.

And I'm going to be there.

Hradek said Pittsburgh is better in all phases, citing centers, goalie and a push on defense. No mention of wingers. And I'm not sure how they can be considered better in goal and a push on defense when they've allowed 19 more goals in 3 more games.

I'm not saying the Hawks definitely aren't better, but Hradek has the credibility of the Pens reaching the SC finals the last 2 years and last year winning it over the team that easily beat the Blackhawks in the WCF. I know last year was last year, but until the Hawks either beat the Pens head to head, or goto a Stanley Cup finals, I don't think it's outrageous at all to say that.

That said, I think the Hawks are obviously a better team than last year, and when on top of their games certainly look like they have the deepest most complete team in hockey, although I have maybe seen parts of 3 Penguins games all year, not to mention San Jose, Washington and whoever else is up towards the top.

He can say they are better, and I wouldn't argue. The problem is his idiotic defense. He said "all phases" then cited centers, goalies and a push on defense. He didn't mention wings, where the Blackhawks arguably are better, and it just doesn't add up that they are better at goal and a push on defense. What is more accurate is probably that they are better in goal and the Hawks are better on defense.

Frustrating. Gotta give Ellis a lot of credit, but they have made one too many passes about three times. Can't believe Buff couldn't bury that last pass from Kane.
