The Idaho Statesman"]Pitcher Su-Min Jung is returning to Korea for his freshman year of college. The Chicago Cubs have taken Jung off of the Hawks roster and placed him on the Cubs restricted list.

Mike Safford"]Boise will lose a pitcher tomorrow, as Su-Min Jung will leave for Korea - as Eduardo Figueroa will take his place in the rotation, starting Tuesday night.

I don't know if that means he'll soon be out of the organization for good or if this is just for the offseason.

Pretty disappointing news, because I can't see this as being a short term type of thing. Maybe the Cubs keep his rights or something by putting him on the restricted list? Either way, I doubt he's back next year personally.

When it says he was replaced in the rotation by Figueroa, was that forecasted ahead of time, or was this a last minute substitution? I think if it's the former, then this was probably in his contract and planned. If it was the latter, he got homesick and decided he wanted to go home and not play baseball here in the states anymore.

I don't know much about these things but I'm think the restricted list is reserved for guys who quit while the club wants to keep the contract so the guy can't change his mind and sign with someone else.

[grain of salt] I played in a men's senior baseball league with a former Cubs prospect who got passed over by Girardi in AAA. He said he got pissed at the Cubs and asked for his release. they wouldn't give it to him so he quit thinking he could catch on with another team the following year. The Cubs kept his contract and placed him on the restricted list. [/grain of salt]

Some of his story may be true but I don't know and I can't remember his name. He said he was ahead of both Barryhill and Wilkens on the depth chart.

The suspended list has many usages, not just for quitters.
