I apologize in advance for those who don't care for this sort of thing.

This thread title has done inspired me to compose a Broadway Musical about the Cubs, based on The Sound of Music. Here is a brief track list:

Is there a diminished skills clause somewhere in the fine print of Soriano's contract?
I don't think so, but with an 8 year contract there should have been.

He said he was told earlier in the season that going on the disabled list for two weeks might clear up the problem.

''I said, 'I don't want to take two weeks; I want to play,''' he said.

I get his desire to play everyday, in fact I respect that out of Soriano, but he isn't helping the Cubs or himself by continuing to play on one leg. With this season nearing the end there is no risk in sitting him down for 2 weeks seeing where he is at health wise. IMO, Hendry AND Piniella needs to tell Soriano that he will be put on the DL for at least two weeks. This is a case of the Cubs management having to protect Soriano from Soriano himself.

Posted
This would actually involve Lou sitting Soriano down and saying you're done for two weeks. Since Lou doesn't really seem interested in managing anymore, this could be a problem.

Alfonso Soriano is set to undergo an MRI on his left knee Wednesday.

''I hope it's nothing serious. I want to see the doctor and see,'' he said. ''I don't like surgery.'' Soriano has missed three straight contests with a sore knee and most of his poor offensive numbers can also be attributed to the ailment. We'll keep you updated with the results of the MRI.

i hope he has to get surgery and is out for the rest of the season...i need a break from his sorry ass

Hypothetically, if it was something career ending, would the Cubs still be responsible for the remainder of his contract or would some kind of insurance take it from there?

What are they gonna decapitate from the knee down?

I hope he has surgery and is out for the rest of the season so that he'll actually be healthy next year.

I think you mean amputate, but yeah, hopefully he'll be healthy next year. Its getting to the point where they may as well shut down Aramis as well. You can still tell hes still in a lot of pain after a lot of those big swings.

i remember reading that aramis would need surgery to fix his shoulder...is this still true?

if it is...he just needs to go under the knife already

throw harden in there as well

and just have a doctor cut miles up into little pieces

There you go, just do it like a chop shop. Break down Miles for spare parts and give them to injured players. Give Aramis his shoulder, Soriano his Knees, Lee his neck, etc.

actually, i think he said recently that it likely won't need surgery, but i may be mistaken.

At this point, a Soriano injury requiring surgery would comfort me. As insane as that sounds. At least then I can convince myself that his crappy season was because of it, and have hope that he'll come back stronger next year.

It's either that, or we have the highest paid 4th outfielder in baseball....

Edelweiss is going to be difficult.

Can't we just keep So Long, Farewell as the original title?
