Who is the odd man out if all are healthy?

Z - obviously not

Demps - nope

Lilly - negative

Wells - He's the rookie of the bunch, so maybe they send him to the bullpen.

Harden - I have a feeling he can be a good 7th or 8th inning guy.

Gorzelanny - He's pitched well in two of his three starts. I can't see him losing his spot so soon after just acquiring him.

Obviously with Z on the DL, this is not something we'll have to think about anytime soon.

Hopefully Caridad.

Z, Dempster, Lilly, and Harden have had injury troubles this year, Gorzelanny is at 100 IP after only 57 last year, and Wells has already surpassed last year's IP by 20. There's barely any off days, so they could all use the rest, especially since there's not a whole lot distinguishing one from another.

If we somehow get healthy, Gorzelanny is going to be the odd man out unless Randy Wells starts to fatigue. The other 4 have enough of a track record to deserve the opportunity. Gorzelanny would go to the pen and give us a 3rd lefty.

Early indications are they are focusing a bit on giving Wells the extra rest. He's being pushed back this week with Harden slotting in for Wednesday.

I'm not too concerned about Gorzelanny's totals, he threw 140 last year, 260 the year before.

Let's see if we ever get to the point where all of them are healthy, then we'll worry about it. You could always go with matchups (Gorz against a lineup loaded with lefties or Wells against righties, flyball pitcher in a big park or sinker pitcher in small park, certain pitcher at home as opposed to on the road, etc.)

i know it sounds silly, but we aren't going anywhere this offseason, so why not.

why not run out a 6 man rotation?

Cause you want to give your best pitcher the most starts.

The Cards improved on the Cubs by 7 games in less than two weeks.

Why can't the Cubs improve by 6 in 6 weeks?

Have you not watched the 2009 Cubs?
