Another win?

So anyway, if the entire team beat the Pirates on Friday, Baker, Gorz, and Guzman did it Saturday. On to Sunday!

Scouting Report[/url]"]Pirates: Ohlendorf was nothing short of efficient in his last start as he gave up three runs on six hits in six-plus innings for the win against the Rockies on Tuesday. Ohlendorf is in the midst of a second-half surge as he's 3-1 with a 3.07 ERA in five starts -- the last four of which have been a quality start -- since the All-Star break. If there's anything that could derail him, it might be his ribs. Ohlendorf fielded a ground ball in the sixth inning against the Rockies and had his wind knocked out. He stayed in the ballgame and said he was a little sore postgame.

Cubs: Harden did not get a decision in his last start vs. the Phillies. He retired the first 16 batters he faced before walking Carlos Ruiz with one out in the sixth. One batter later, Jimmy Rollins spoiled Harden's no-hit bid with a two-run homer. That was one of two hits off Harden in his seven innings of work. He also struck out six. Harden has a 1.95 ERA in his last six starts.

The Basics: Ohlendorf is doing better in the second half, Harden is doing even better than that.

The Good: Ohlendorf may be hurt, Harden is frick'n Harden again.

The Ugly: Last time the Cubs faced Ohlendorf, he shut them down, allowing only 4 hits and no runs in 7 innings.

I can't believe the Pirates even field a AAA team. If I was a veteran player at AAA and I didn't get a callup before September 1, I'd consider retiring.

The funny thing about Indianapolis being Pittsburgh's AAA affiliate is that Indianapolis the city is actually double the population of Pittsburgh (although Pittsburgh's metro is ~700k more). Also, the Indy Indians are in 2nd place in their division, while the Pirates are dead last and fading fast. Maybe the Indianapolis Indians should play the Cubs tomorrow.

no. the payroll for next year is about $120M and they've already sunk a lot of money into long-term contracts with Z and dempster (plus lilly is still under contract in 2010). offer him arbitration and probably watch him walk.

I'm of the opinion that Rich Harden is one of the top five pitchers in baseball when he's healthy. It'd be tough to swallow watching him go somewhere else.

I'd re-sign Harden if it could happen for cheap; if we could get him back for 1-2 at 1/10-2/16 or similar, I'd like to take the risk and trade Lilly to free the cash while acquiring a solid prospect or two from a team who needs a guaranteed avg or above starter who will actually EAT INNINGS in a way better than someone like Cookies Blanton's who tosses mediocre innings and eats them likely topped with chocolate sauce and lard.
