Ground rule doubles suck. I wish there was a way to change the rule to make it fair. Like umpires discretion or something but that would never happen.

Bradley grounded an IF single to second base

D Lee flied out to shallow center field

Cubs leadoff hitters only get paid if they swing at the first pitch.

 

I like how we all get pissed when someone swings at the first pitch and makes an out, but if they get a hit we congratulate them for jumping all over the first pitch.

 

Never seen anyone applaud first pitch swinging.

 

Really? I have. Swinging at the first pitch by itself is not a bad thing, but if its a trend that's not working, it can be really bad. There are different scenarios depending on scouting reports, placement in the order, how the pitcher fared against the previous hitter, etc.

Agreed. However, it seems when the Cubs do it there is no such strategy involved. Just impatience. Soriano leadoff homers were fun but I like to see the pitcher leave the inning with more than 5 pitches.
