If the Cubs make any more moves, I'm sure I'll be pissed about it.

They've been most linked to a lefty reliever, which they got.

The only other thing they've been linked to is a platoon partner for Bradley, which I don't want at all.

We don't have the money to take on a big bat, so unless the team adds a backup catcher, I don't think any move they make would please me at all.

Hill is a better backup catcher than any other backups that are available.

Not if Gregg Zaun is available.

The Red Sox are about to acquire Victor Martinez from Indians

It'll be interesting to see who Cleveland gets.

I would bet Clay Buchholz is in the deal.

Gregg Zaun is light years better.

Hill shouldn't be in the pros.

That's how it appears.

The Boston Red Sox and the Cleveland Indians were discussing a three-way trade Thursday night that would send Victor Martinez to Boston, Clay Buchholz to Cleveland and prospects flying in all directions, according to clubs that spoke to both teams.

The Red Sox also would attempt to move recently acquired first baseman Adam LaRoche, either to a third team or in a companion deal, to make room for catcher/first baseman Martinez in their lineup, one source said.

I don't agree that Hill shouldn't be in the pros. He's a good to very good defensive catcher who hits about like most backup catchers do. Zaun is much better, though.

Hill was really good in AAA. AAA is professional baseball. Hill has all the right in the world to be in the pros.

so where is Martinez going to play? Youk's at first and Varitek hasn't been awful this year.

You play him like 50 games each at C/1B/DH, giving days off for the legit guys at those spots, and also spelling Lowell by moving Youkilis to 3B when they're both on the infield. Not sure if that's worth Buchholz, but it's how you'd maximize his value at this point.

Depending on Lowell's hip, I think you might see Youk alot more at 3rd for the rest of the yr with Martinez playing first/spelling Varitek at catcher (then BoSox then can let Varitek go after the season).

I did not know zaun was available. Zaun is a better offensive catcher but Koyie is better defensively. Hill throws out 41% of runners while Zaun throws out 26% and koyie's RF/9 is 8.39 while Zaun's is 6.53.

Koyie is a MUCH better defensive catcher while zaun is better offensively. If i had to choose between a good offensive backup or a good defensive backup I would take the better defensive one every time.

For some reason I kind of like Koyie Hill. I don't really have a problem with a bad hitting backup who makes the minimum and plays solid defense. It helps when your starter is production.

He was mentioned as possibly available a week or two ago. No idea how serious it is now.

And your last paragraph is where we differ.

I don't have a problem with Koyie, either. He's a nice, cheap backup. Had we been able to acquire Zaun for something minor, I'd have been all for it, however.

Mark Saxon of the OC Register thinks an Angels trade may be in the works, with the Halos recalling catcher Bobby Wilson and infielder Sean Rodriguez despite one free roster spot. Of course, someone could be headed to the DL.

I'm confused as to the intent of this post.

What about bringing Nomar back as a bench/PH type? Surely Oakland wouldn't want much for him. Not sure what he is making.

Ehhh, I don't know really.

.688 OPS this year with just 43 games played. Maybe for a PTBNL or cash, but that's about it.

Koyie is your run of the mill backup C. As long as Sotos due back soon, and hes supposedly due back Wednesday we can live with him for another few days. He is what he is.
