I believe there was an injury issue that prompted it as a part-time move. Then he started hitting in LF, so they stuck with it.

Yeah, I recall that now. He wasn't hitting so well when he was in CF.

There was. The Cubs were already asking him if he would like to move to LF to make him more comfortable but Soriano said he would be fine in CF. Then he got hurt diving for a ball in short center field, and when he came back a week later he was in LF because the Cubs had called up Pie to take center. By the time Pie went down 3 weeks later, Soriano was stuck in LF.

10:51am: Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports say the Cubs will stay internal for their Reed Johnson replacement.

Hendry just keeps getting better all the time.

Id rather we stayed internal also instead of giving up a good prospect for a month long Reed replacement. Odds are over the next month we face Im guessing, 5 LH starting pitchers at most.

It says we won't be trading for a Johnson replacement, but I took it as we won't be getting another bat at all. I'm still not a believer in Fuld, at all, but I hope he proves me wrong.

Although I have to say, his 10 triples at Iowa this year are quite impressive.

Hendry wouldn't dare to bring up So Taguchi...would he?

Hes mashing leftys in the minors if I recall correctly.

He's got a .235/.365/.368/.732 line against lefties. Batting .297/.389/.341/.730 against righties.

Ben Francisco from the Indians would have been nice, but now he's on the Phils.

Is Lastings Milledge worth giving anything up for?

soooo...13 pitchers? or am i missing something?

i really don't like playing with a short bench, especially with the current situation at catcher.

For now at least. Za,bramo will pinch hit if they need one early.

Im guessing this lasts either for just today or today and tomorrow. With Hart going today, I really dont mind carrying the extra pitchers.

From Bruce's blog on Reed:

“I talked to the doctors today,” Jim said. “I don’t think anybody thinks it’s going to be 30 days now. It may be 15 days, what we’re hoping for."

It also sounds like the Cubs are going with 13 pitchers today partly because Fuld isn't in Chicago yet (Stevens was still in Chicago). Bruce said that Fuld will be activated for tomorrow's game.

Well that changes everything. 15 days is a lot better than 30-40. In that case I don't blame him for not acquiring a replacement. I still say we need a bat in general though, preferably for 2B.

It also says in the blog that Soto could be back next week, which would be huge.

that makes sense.

although, i might consider bringing up Robinson instead of Fuld. i guess Soto is supposed to be back possibly next week though.

Soriano in CF can't be much worse than Sosa in CF (which we saw)

Rodriguez, Sosa and Hill left to right. :-&

Fuld caught the team charter before it left for Florida and Atkins goes back down. Good couple of days for him, hopefully it helps his confidence and gets him back on track. He seemed like he was going to be a good prospect before he got destroyed in AAA this year. If the rumors are right and Gorz is going to start Tuesday then I assume Shark goes back down to to the rotation in AAA to make room to make room.

The roster crunch is coming. Miles and Soto are going to finish their minor league rehab stints soon so that means two guys have to go. With Lou being insistent on 12 pitchers I am thinking it will be Blanco and Fuld. Could be Hill if they trust Fox to catch (doubtful) or Hoff if they think they can get by without a LH pinch hitter for a couple weeks. Thankfully they are within a month of rosters expanding so they won't have to deal with the short bench for too long.

whats it matter, hasnt blanco already been at iowa this year?

Yes, but that was on a minor league contract, so it wasn't an option. Now that he's been added to the 40-man roster he'd have to use an option to be sent down, and he doesn't have one. Therefore he'd have to clear waivers in order to be sent down.
