Yankees Eyeing Corey Patterson

My question is: For what?

We already knew of the Yankees' interest in recently-designated outfielder Josh Anderson; Joel Sherman of the New York Post says to add the newly-released Corey Patterson to the list. Sherman says the goal is to find a fill-in for Brett Gardner, who broke his thumb on Saturday. Anderson and Patterson both have speed, at least.

According to a press release, the Royals acquired outfielder Josh Anderson from the Tigers for cash considerations. The speedster hit .242/.282/.315 with 13 steals in 15 tries for Detroit. The Royals say they'll make a corresponding roster move once they determine Anderson's reporting date.

The Yanks wanted him. Maybe they grab Patterson now.

he'd be a league-minimum player with excellent defense in a lineup that doesn't really need anymore offensive firepower. if they're really in a pinch for a body to fill that position, i guess patterson isn't the worst option in the world.

Yeah. He'd only be needed for a couple weeks until Brett Gardner returns from the DL. I mean, they employed Cody Ransom at third while A-Rod was out. I don't think this would be a big deal to them.

MLB.com's Adam McCalvy tweets that the Brewers have signed outfielder Corey Patterson to a minor league deal, assigning him to Triple-A Nashville. The 29-yr old Patterson hit .133-.133-.133 in 15 plate appearances with the Nationals earlier in the year, but spent most of the season in Triple-A. Washington released him last week.
