The Phanatic as batman was all kinds of awesome.

I can't stand the philly phanatic.

Of course you say that right before my post. The Philly Phanatic isn't as cool as Green Man, but he's pretty sweet.

I'll be standing at attention patiently, awaiting the moment the Cubs impress you.

Seriously? You're obviously trolling here. And it's bad if I'm defending Truffle.

the phanatic is great. my mom (elementary school music teacher) did a play on baseball several years ago, and someone arranged for the phanatic to show up at the end of it and carry my mom out of the auditorium.

another phun phact, the guy who originally played the phanatic ate close to 8,000 calories a day during the season, because he sweats so much in the suit during the games. in day games during the summer it could get over 150 degrees inside the suit.

Koyie Hill is freakin brutal.

at this point they might as well put fox in to get some catching practice. koyie can't hit and fox can, so might as well see if he can at least be "not horrific" on D.

I'll admit he's funny on occasion, but I'm just not a big fan of mascots in baseball, period. At least not the Big Leagues.

Wait what? I'm thinking you quoted the wrong post, especially given the mention of truffle...

I don't know about the rest of you but this is by far the most frustrating season I can remember....and there has been a lot of them to choose from.

2006 and it's not even close.

Yea, nothing will ever be as bad as 2006. Ever.

that was bad but not frustrating. the cubs were horrible and nobody cared about them by mid to late may.

now 2004, THAT was frustrating.

April of 2006 was fine but after starting May 2-12, yeah, that season was a lost cause.

It sucked, but wasn't frustrating. This year and 2004 have both been the most frustrating season since I've been a Cubs fan.

Stevens looks good

I think he's now pitched 4 innings of no hit ball since he came up. I don't know much about the guy other than that he came over in the DeRosa trade. Anyone know anything about him?

...

isn't it funny how some people just come out of the woodwork when the cubs lose? no posts during the washington series but the cubs lose a game to the phillies and oh look, they're back.

The Washington series shows nothing in any capacity. This series against a top team is quite different.

You are right, my bad. How dare I act like the Cubs haven't done anything worthy of praise. They are one of the most dedicated and competent franchises in MLB, and I am proud to be a fan. We Cubs fans are spoiled, aren't we? All those world series appearances and here I am complaining that beating the National means nothing.

I really need to rethink my approach to Cubs baseball. These guys have been putting it on the line with a competent front office and on-field presence for a long time, with a few rings thrown in to boot.

Sorry, Cubs. I guess I got a little greedy.

We actually got two other guys in the DeRosa trade, along with Stevens. Both are nearly unhittable right now, but both have some weak control.

John Gaub has a 2.78 ERA with a 1.206 WHIP between Tennessee (AA) and Iowa (AAA) this year. He's allowed just 19 hits in 32 innings, but has also walked 20. I think he projects to the bullpen and he's currently 24.

Chris Archer has a 2.39 ERA and a 1.312 WHIP right now in Peoria (low A). He's allowed 50 hits in 71 innings, but again, 44 walks in that time. He projects to be a starter, I believe, and is 20 right now.

All three have good upsides.
