Story on Hak-Ju Lee:

Idaho Statesman"]"He's been very patient and selective," Medina said. "He's a disciplined hitter."

In addition, Lee has also played well defensively, Hoorelbeke said.

"He's got incredible range," he said. "And it's kind of funny, I'm so used to (his throws) hitting me in the chest. A couple of games ago, he threw one down around my knees and he came over and apologized. I said, 'That's fine. As long as it's in the area, it's fine.' "

"What we have is a guy with great instincts," he said. "He loves to play the game and he's made some unbelievable plays at shortstop."

Medina said Lee's early success this season is a result of hard work. Lee was sidelined in Arizona for some time after Tommy John surgery, but he continued to work on his game.

"He was always tracking pitches and watching," Medina said. "He's got great habits and work ethic. He worked on his body strength and it's paying off."

Lee said through a translator that the pitching in the Northwest League is the best he's faced, and he's pleased that he's had some early success.

Medina = Boise hitting coach Ricardo Medina

Hoorelbeke = Boise first baseman Sean Hoorelbeke

By the way, Oneri Fleita is in Boise for the 3-game series against Yakima - maybe trying to figure out where DJ Fitzgerald would fit with Logan Watkins already at 2B and Lee at SS.

Lee certainly sounds like one to watch. Watching the WBC has made me appreciate the brand of baseball played in Asia.

I think most of us assumed this already but:

The American Chronicle"]Last year, Tulsa Drillers right fielder Ryan Harvey was asked to convert to pitching when he was a member of the Chicago Cubs organization.

"I pretty much told them I've got a lot of confidence in myself that I can still hit and that I'm not ready to give up on hitting," said Harvey, who was the Cubs' first-round choice as the sixth overall pick of the 2003 major league amateur draft.

I'm glad to see Ryan Harvey doing well in Double AA. After 55 games Harvey is batting .242 with 12 doubles, 11 homeruns, 34 rbi's and a .825 OPS. It seems that the Cubs are leaning more toward the smaller, speed burner type outfielders who can put the ball in play and steal bases. They've gotten away from the slower, game changing power guys who usually play the corner positions. Harvey,at 6'5" 240 doesn't fit into that new phylosophy.....and they gave him the ultimatum which he wisely refused. Another player that is in that mold is second year outfielder Jericho Jones. He is 6'5" 225 and presently getting into about 25% of the Daytona Cubs games ( and only as a DH ) It appears that Buddy Bailey has no intention of putting Jones in the outfield (although he fields his position well and has a strong arm) He was a weekend starting pitcher for his three years in college and is a low 90's guy (clocked at 96 at a Dodgers pre-draft workout). It would be better for a player like Jones to be traded or moved down to a lower level team where he could play everday in the outfield and get in a hitters rythym ( instead of 5 at bats per week as a DH ). It looks like they will eventually do the pitcher ultimatum strategy to Jones (not a good idea). I wish Harvey the best and hope he makes the bigs someday.

Harvey is old and his numbers aren't that good, I'm not sure that his decision was all that wise.

Especially since we have had success in turning these guys careers around. Marmol and Wells.

Thanks, I added it to the Cashner/Carpenter thread.

I have been waiting for this to happen and now that it has i will make the one hour drive to Daytona. I'm also going to the futures game so i will be able to see him twice.

So is it time to start viewing Coleman as a legit prospect along with Jackson, Cashner, and Carpenter? His numbers have been just as good as Jacksons, and I wouldnt be the least surprised to see them both open 2010 in Iowa.

Down 2-0 in the bottom of the 10th, Hak-Ju Lee ties the game with a 2-RBI double down the left field line! Still only one out and Logan Watkins is due up after a pitching change.

It was a good piece of hitting, went with the pitch to left.

He needs to get up here. we NEED a shortstop, and now, well ANY offense.
