"This isn't me," Bradley told the Tribune before his confrontation with Piniella. "I've always excelled at playing baseball, and to come here and suck like I have, it's just not a good feeling. And there's really not one guy who I can sit and talk to. I've been on teams where I have guys I know, or somebody I can just vent to."

Derrek Lee has a locker next to Bradley and they speak frequently. So why not vent to Lee?

"We just don't have that bond," he replied. "'D-Lee' is cool. He's quiet. But things change. I had a good rapport with [fired hitting coach Gerald Perry]. I trusted Gerald and I could talk to him, and he's gone. I think I clicked with [ex-Cub outfielder Joey] Gathright, and he's gone. So you just kind of feel like you're on an island, and trying to stay afloat."

this isn't 2nd grade, milton.

"When you walk around, when you look in people's eyes, you don't feel worthy," he said. "That's what I see."

what a complex on this dude

Sounds like the Cubs need to get this guy into therapy and on some Prozac.

Everyone he names in the quote is black / African-American.

And?

I'm not the biggest Lou fan, but I think some of you are ripping him too much on this. How do you know for sure that if someone else would have done the same thing yesterday that his response would have been different? Maybe it's all the player blow ups (Z, Dempster, Bradley, etc) that had him sick & tired of that crap and it just happened to be Bradley who acted like an idiot to set Lou off. Or maybe Bradley does this a lot more than we realize and that's what caused Lou's reaction. Either way, Bradley needs to get over his "nobody loves me" attitude and start being a professional. If you need a bff on this team, make some effort to reach out to other players and find one. It doesn't sound like he's done that so far. And above everything else, start earning your soapdropping paycheck. It's almost July and you have too many people thinking Jacque Jones really wasn't that bad.

It makes me wonder if part of the reason he apparently feels isolated is because he doesn't have any close friends on the team (or as a coach) who are black.

Well who's fault is that Bradley doesn't feel like he has any friends on the team? He's has been bad at the plate and causing distractions with his behavior all season. It's ok to be crazy as long as you're producing (see: Z), and even then you're going to get in trouble.

Bradley just seems like he's looking for ways for things to go wrong.

I can't wait until the next "oh Cub fans hate black people" article. :massive eyeroll

I assume it's Bradley's "fault" ... but it's the Cubs' problem.

For most players, getting out of a slump / improving production will fix behavior/attitude problems. But Bradley has always been an outlier when it comes to behavioral problems, and I'm increasingly concerned that his emotional issues are going to prolong his production issues ... or that by the time he does start hitting, he'll be teetering on the edge of some sort of team/league suspension (or banishment to Lou's doghouse) that will shut him down again.

Heh, I'm not one to buy into the whole team chemistry concept but Milton Bradley is a guy that makes you rethink that position.

Bradley's teammates have always adored him.

That is completely untrue.

Yes, a few players out of the hundreds that Milton has played with have publicly said he's a good teammate. A few. The general consensus around MLB is that Milton is a huge a-hole and isn't liked by most of his teammates.

Link? Evidence? Nonsense?

And Jeff Kent doesn't count. Everybody hates Jeff Kent.

Bradley has 10 million reason to shut his mouth, sack up, and hit the baseball with authority.

He needs to stop trying to blame someone and do what he's paid to do.

Seriously, no one gives a flying fart if he has friends or otherwise has a hard life. Boo freaking hoo.

What he doesn't realize is that he could act like the [expletive] he is, produce at a .900 OPS, and people wont give him any crap.

It really all boils down to him sucking nine kinds of ass this year and people (fans and management) getting sick and tired of it.

Actually, he has thirty million reasons not to care about doing any of those three things.

sad, but true

He needs to stick to the cliches when speaking to the press. While his opinions and perceptions are interesting, they will be used against him.

It's not like he's blaming anyone but himself for his poor play.

You've got to at least credit Bradley with not once pointing the finger at anyone. He's taken all responsibility for everything so far, and I do applaud him for that. It does take a strong person to accept blame, and not blame others.

On the subject of Bradley, can anyone tell me the last time he drove in a run? He's been stuck on 16 ever since i can remember, which is pathetic for a 3 hole hitter

Yeah, remind me what everyone's pissed at Bradley about here? That he is pissed about playing poorly?

Don't take into account the fact that he's had the martyr complex ever since he came on board. He's just had an unlucky combination of the umpire conspiracy and his absolute horses**t play. And it seems like his teammates and his manager don't like him. Other than that, it's been a solid signing.

It can't be him. It must be everyone else.

I'll give him credit for that, but geez, it's late June, there are three more months left to the season.... we've moved beyond slump to a crappy year. What aggravates me most about Bradley is tied to DeRosa. We get rid of DeRosa who brings many good things on the field and intangibles (motivator, team guy, etc.) off the field. Then we bring in Bradley who doesn't do any of that, nor does he do much on the field ... it's simple math that doesn't add up.

"sack up" - he's not man enough, that's why he's struggling?

Boy is this kind of talk annoying.

So the "big left-handed bat" that JH sorely wanted to acquire this past offseason hasn't driven in a run in two weeks.

Yeah because Soriano and Theriot have gotten on base for him so well. Ok, Theriot had an OBP of .370 the last 2 weeks, but Bradley is only hitting singles so far so he's only getting him to 2B.

Never mind that Bradley's had a .415 OBP the last 2 weeks because he's trash for not driving in RISP that aren't there, right?

Bradley wasn't signed to hit singles, he was signed to be a middle of the order run producer. He has been a complete failure in that regard.

True, but RBI's are not an effective way to judge Bradley's production with Auto-Out and Theriot in front of him. I agree with what you're saying though: (so far) Bradley's not worth his paycheck.
