I don't know if anyone's noticed but Rafael Dolis seems to be on a similar inning/pitch count as Andrew Cashner.

Today, he went 3.2 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K - 1 of those runners scored on Al Alburquerque's clock.

I believe someone linked a url for the Boise broadcasts that didn't require a subscription before; does anyone have that handy? I'm not sure what the board policy is, but if what I asked is an issue please delete this.

Suarez with a 1-2-3 1st with 2 strike outs.

Suarez then loses it in the 2nd after Matt Cerda drops a sure first out foul out. BB, BB, RBI single (would have been a DP but IF was playing in), BB, RBI single thus far.

He gets an RBI groundout and hits his pitch count. Rough 2nd dooms Larry. The 2 guys still on base are his responsibility.

Suarez final line: 1.1 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 2 K. It all fell apart when Cerda dropped a foul pop up on the 13th pitch of the lead off at bat. The next pitch was ball 4 and Suarez fell apart.

Is there a NSBB board consensus regarding Colvin? Should we have hopes for him yet?

I think so. Remember, he didnt just randomly slump, he came back from a major surgery, and he seems to be pulling it together. At the age of 24, theres a decent chance he makes it to Iowa at 1 point, even if it is only in September when the I Cubs are called up to the majors, and he'll probably start the 2010 season there as well.

I think the board consensus is that we're confused. He was already a confusing player last year with either being very good with the strikeout/walk ratio or hitting the ball well but never both.

Now you throw in TJS, his bad numbers at Daytona to start the year and the questions surrounding that (was that just because he was rehabbing? Did the concussion hurt that? etc.) and now his hot start in Tennessee and I really don't think the picture is clear at all on him right now.

Is there hope? Yes. Colvin's power seems to start to be filling out and if that does he'll get to the majors and stay there for awhile. Colvin reminds me a lot of Jacque Jones. Jones was another player with decent to good power and a bad walk rate. He also went through stretches where he walked at a higher pace, but his average and power tended to go down during those stretches as well, and he ended up being more productive when he was aggressive. They also both had the ability to play CF but are kind of in between being a natural center fielder and a corner outfielder.

I see Colvin as more of a platoon/4th OF, but he also has a decent chance of being a team's starting CF (possibly still in a platoon, although Colvin hasn't shown consistent signs of struggling against left-handers) when he's cheap and be just fine there.

Good comments on colvin. Personally I'm doubtful that he'll be viewed as CF material, but I hope you're right and I'm wrong. You are so right that it's hard to know what to think. He's been so streaky, and it's hard to know why. Surgery, instruction to be patient, what sort of factors have been influencing his production or lack thereof, hard to tell.

My view is that he will live or die with his HR power. If he can evolve into a real HR hitter, that's good for his average and OBP and justifies a lot of low walks.

But he's never been a consistent or a volume HR guy. Hopefully his output at Tennessee will be sustainable. And hopefully he's approaching a point in his career where he'll be fully healthy, and where he won't be so often experimenting with new approaches. But will eventually be able to settle into a good approach that, while perhaps not as walk-rich as I would like, isn't quite Soriano-wild either.

Thanks guys, for your thoughts, Re: Colvin. I too am hoping he can stick in CF. I also recall the confusion about his streak of patience last year. Maybe it's possible the Cubs are actually capable of developing him.

Arizona Phil at The Cub Reporter[/url]"]RAISIN: I don't know if you'll see this, but I know that you follow Cubs minor league games and box scores pretty closely, and in last night's AZL Cubs game, that was S. Williams (18-year old Australian Sean Williams) playing LF, NOT M. Williams (18th round draft pick Matt Williams, the catcher from Duke). Matt Williams was the bullpen catcher.

The problem when the official scorer (or the individual at MiLB.com on the other end of the cell-phone in NY) makes a mistake like this, is that the player's stats from that game get imported into the wrong player's season stats, so that SEAN Williams' nice 2-4 evening got credited to MATT Williams, and all M. Williams had to do to get that 2-4 was warm up relief pitchers in the bullpen. I'll bet getting two hits in a game wasn't that easy at Duke!

Beefy LHP John Mincone (11th round pick out of Suffolk CC) looked VERY good. Low 90's FB with sinking action and an occasional gassy four-seamer to change the hitter's eye-level.

And LHP Daley Cox is a midget. I actually lost sight of him briefly when he stepped behind the mound to use the resin bag.

Dwayne Kemp had a single, double, and a triple, and he really should have had two triples, but AZL Cubs manager Juan Cabreja (coaching third base) held up base-runner Sean Williams at 3rd base (there were no outs). Unfortunately, Kempy just kept barreling blindly full-speed past 2nd base, before slamming on the brakes halfway between 2nd & 3rd when he realized S. Williams had been held up, but then Williams went home on his own and scored easily, although Kempy got caught in a rundown and was eventually tagged out trying to get to 3rd base (and Kemp looked REALLY pissed, too).

Also there were three "new guys" at the game to take physicals and sign contracts. One was #1 pick Brett Jackson, and another was a tall blonde guy (obviously a pitcher) I just can't place.

BTW, Player Development Director Oneri Fleita, Minor League Pitching Coordinator Mark Riggins, and Minor League Hitting Coordinator Dave Keller are at Fitch Park evaluating the new draftees. So expect to see some roster "adjustments" in the next few days.

Poor Sean Williams lost a 2/4 game.

It's a pulled hamstring per the Des Moines Register.
