Andrew Cashner was dominant before the rains hit Lakeland: 4 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K.

They're still in a rain delay after 4, Daytona leads it 1-0. Starlin Castro is 1/2.

No complaints there except for the low amount of IP. I figured he would start out with a similar low K ratio like Samardzija, but that's acceptable given the low BBs.

Starlin Castro seems to be warming up again. 3/4 with a stolen base, however, he made yet another error. It seems that every time he has a multi-hit game he also makes at least one error. I'm hoping the errors will decrease as he settles in and gets some more games under his belt.

Boise's PBP announcer has a blog which should have some nice tidbits from time to time: http://boisehawksradio.mlblogs.com/

Apparently all the players have to walk 1 mile to Denny's for food or 2 miles to Subway, etc while they're in Salem.

What was worse was that without anything within sight of the hotel, it has been difficult for the foreign players to find these spots. Larry Suarez and Robert Hernandez were trying to find the food and I pointed them in the right direction - followed by Jeff Antigua, who as tonight's starter, will have to make the long walk for food...maybe this is why Salem-Keizer has such a decisive home field advantage.

Marcos Mateo has been great: 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K (80 pitches).

Hak-Ju Lee leads off the Boise game with a single. He's now 8 for 14 on the season.

Bullpen struggling again for Boise - this time, it's Tarlandas Mitchell (and his defense isn't helping - Kevin Soto turned an inning-ending flyout into a 2 RBI double).

What happened to Cales??

Cales got demoted to Daytona at the end of May. He hasn't pitched in a week now, although with the All-Star break that's only been 5 games. Curious that he hasn't been used though, he'd gone right back to dominating at Daytona since his demotion.

Absolutely. The gun wasn't on, but I swore Mateo was throwing the the low 90s at the worst. Him and Mann were in a classic pitcher's duel. As far as I could tell, even tho he had 5 k's, he didn't really miss too many bats, but on the flip side the Biscuits could not "square up" on anything Mateo threw.

Side notes about the game:

A couple of people were hit by foul balls on the night including a young girl. Both were said to be ok after the game. The Biscuits announcers were playing "Barney's Theme" every time Barney came up to the plate. Jonathon Mota was the "Coke man" of the night. Meaning if he struck out during his at-bats alot of people would have gotten free Coke-Zero. Fortunately for Mota he grounded out, line a base hit, and walk in the at-bats I saw.

There was a nice line of autograph seekers behind the Smokies dugout and Ryno signed every last person until game time. Tony Thomas' error was a mental lapse. I saw once he was ready to throw the ball, it was going to be a bad throw. Seeing as who his manager is, it wouldn't surprise me if Ryno was irked about the throw.

Final note: I was pleasantly surprise about the turnout of "Cubs fans" at the game tonight.

All in all an enjoyable game. Too bad the Smokies lost, but no real complaints about the game.

Peoria Journal-Star[/url]"]EASY DECISION: Peoria pitcher Chris Carpenter was not scheduled to pitch in Tuesday’s All-Star Game after he worked six innings for the Chiefs on Friday night against Burlington.

“It’s still an honor to be here and I’m having a great time,” Carpenter said. “It was more important to the team to get a win, and we did get a win. When they explained the options, it wasn’t even close.”

Link also talks about how Ridling won the home run contest with 12 home runs (Vitters also took part but only hit 1 HR).

With him, there always has to be some concern.

Just got in from the MWL All-Star game. Several comments and replies to postings so far:

1) The HR Derby was kind of a joke, as they had all the guys batting off of a pitching machine. Rebel put on a show, but a lot of the guys just couldn't get their timing down off the machine.

2) OutshinedOne failed to mention Burke in his box score: 1/3, 1B, R

3) Although Clinton may not be the best place to play, they did an excellent job hosting the game. Very fan friendly place, and I had zero complaints!

I'll post some pictures and video later tonight when I pull them off my cameras.

Apologies - that was my fault failing to mention Burke.

Oh it's no biggie, I just logged on to see if there was any other info out there, and I am going to put some pics and video from last night, and I just noticed it.

Simokaitis is a pitcher now? (according to the AZL Cubs box score)

Yeah he "tried out" here a couple weeks back throwing a simulated game against Perez, Rundle, Lake and Mercedes. Low 90s with good sink and slider
