God, Miles, just once...ONCE...do something productive with the bat.

He had an RBI double that one time.

I was as shocked as anyone.

OK, Im officially convinced that the only reason LaRussa tried so hard to steal Miles back this offseason was to psyche Hendry into offering him a foolish contract, and as a thank you, Miles vowed to take down the Cubs from inside.

I like the bunt there. 3 singles hitters coming up in a row (Hill, Blanco, Miles). The run's still not likely to score, but it's probably a little more likely with the bunt than relying on 2 hits from that combination of hitters. And now you should have no DP that brings the top of the lineup up next inning.

miles is a singles hitter? i thought he was an outs hitter.

See, he's assuming that there is a chance for him to hit a single, which isn't likely at all.

At least with Hill, there is a chance for a home run, or even ANY hit.

These situations are so completely predictable. You knew Marmol was going to walk in a run and you knew the Cubs were going to score after the sacrifice bunt. Why doesn't Lou see this stuff?

That's not a completely fair argument. The great likelihood is that both of those things happen no matter what the manager does. It's not likely to work out because both of those were really bad situations.

Miles has only had 2 multi hit games all year, and they both came in games where we won by 7 or more runs.

Perhaps it's a good thing that Miles didn't get a hit there...the Cubs have lost their last 6 games that Miles has a hit in.

Miles has 4 RBIs all year (in 122 ABs), and hasn't had one since May 14th.

Overall, the Cubs are 19-26 in games that Miles plays in and 13-5 when he doesn't play.

Can I restate how much I hate the concept of a LOOGY?

i like the concept of it, but i don't like that our LOOGY isn't that good against LH baters is our really our long man who shouldn't be burned against one batter in a close game.
