Haven't read the whole thread.

I think the offense will be fine. I know its been frustrating, but getting Ramirez back and Soriano eventually turning it around will be huge. Plus if Bradley remembers how to drive the ball now that he's remembering how to hit.

I think we just need one more reliever that we can rely on. Julian Tavarez and Juan Cruz will definitely be available. Would SD make Heath Bell or Cla Meredith available? I kinda doubt it since they're both cheap, and we don't really have what it takes to give them an offer they can't refuse.

I would stay far, far away from Tavarez at all costs. Id see what the Royals want for Cruz though.

I doubt that Bell or Meredith will be available any time soon. Bell is Trevor Hoffmans heir apparent and is arb eligable in 2010 and 2011, and Meredith isnt a FA until 2013, sot theres no reason to move either.

I'd love Cruz, but he may be pretty expensive.

I actually didnt hear this first hand, but a friend of mine heard on the radio that while a trade is possible, it wont happen until closer to the deadline after Aramis is back and they can evaluate how much he can contribute, and at then decide what there main needs are, so I guess we can forget about anything in the next few weeks. Hopefully we can just get Fox in as much as possible.

Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports says the Cubs hope to get Aramis Ramirez back in action before determining whether they will make a deadline deal.

Not a surprise.

I know, but until now, there was at least the small glimmer of hope that Id check MLBTR in the next few weeks or even days and read about the Cubs aquiring someone like DeRosa, Teahen, Branyan, or Lopez.

Every bit of evidence up to this point has supported Hendry waiting. I was hoping for a move earlier, but if Hendry can only make one trade it's probably better to wait and make sure it's the right deal.

Does he really think there is a chance that Ramirez coming back will suddenly fix the offense? Dumb. We need a second baseman, at least.

Absolutely. We knew it was questionable if Fontenot could thrive as an everydaystarter, but Hendry still couldnt ship DeRosa out of town fast enough. Now, that move has come back to haunt us in a major way, and Hendry refuses to admit his error.

It almost makes me wonder if when Hendry sayd he wants to wait and see what our needs are, he means wait and see if hes buying or selling.

The first thing the Cubs should do is find a leadoff man who actually gets on base. Imagine that! That simply means moving Soriano out of the #1 spot where he doesn't belong. That .291 OBP is awesome. Fuku or Theriot should be at the leadoff position. Theriot's OBP has slipped, however.

The second thing they need to do is go after some real bullpen help. Relying on Marmol and Greg isn't going to get it done, and hasn't. Cubs need another solid pen arm they can rely on.

It looks like the Cubs might have to go after a SS or 2B, with Theriot defaulting to the other position which player X does not play.

That said, the biggest problem the Cubs have is Hendry's inability to create a proper outfield since Sosa/Alou. A huge portion of the team salary is spent on the outfield(close to one third) and the production we are getting is garbage. Is it any surprise that the year the Cubs got closest to the WS in 50 years was when they had an outfield of Alou, Lofton and Sosa?

Fukudome has an OBP of .271 since the beginning of June

The Cubs won't be sellers for a variety of reasons, with the most obvious being the mediocrity of the NL Central. Waiting for other teams to decide if they're buyers or sellers could have something to do with it. The articles that I've read claim that right now there are only about 4 teams that are guaranteed to be sellers. I'm sure that by the deadline there will be more like 10 teams.

Right now, it should be crystal clear to even a deaf, dumb, and blind kid who cant necessarily play a mean pin ball that our biggest need is a second baseman. Every regular on the team has shown that they desrve to be here at one point or another aside from Fontenot, except for that 1st game. Maybe Ryan Freel is a temporarly answer, but If Im Hendry, Im on the horn seeing what the Indians want for DeRosa, the Marlins want for Uggla, The Pirates want for Sanchez or any other potentially available second baseman. Fontenot is basically Neifi Perez at this point.

Morosi at Foxsports is writing that the Royals are willing to trade any "non-core" players and Teahen is mentioned as a trade candidate.

What are "core players" for the Royals? Probably the rotation, Soria, and Gordon?

My guess would be:

Callaspo

Gordon

Butler

Greinke

Hochevar

Soria

Butler and Hochevar may not be core players, but both are young and very talented.

Im just going to throw this out there: Micah Hoffpauir for Felipe Lopez. Not a ground breaking deal, but it could fill a hole for both teams.

Lopez is on a 1 year deal. Hes no DeRosa, and while hes only OPSing around .750, hes avg. is at .300, which is all you need for an 8 hitter, which is what hed probably be, and at worst, a platoon with Font eve though he is a switch hitter, I believe.

Meanwhile, The D backs are down there starting first baseman in Connor Jackson, so theyve been forced to use Mary Reynolds at first and Eric Byrnes broke his hand last night, so down goes a starting outfielder.

I dont know what kind of return the Backs are expecting for Lopez, but they're not going to get any kind of top prospects in return for him, and at most a pair of solid AA or below guys.

And if they want to make it interesting, we could also swap Aaron Miles for Jon Rauch, both guys making similar dollar mounts next year, and both guys have dissapointed there current teams. OK, I wouldnt exactly call Miles a dissapointment, becasue we didnt expect anythig out of him, but you know what I mean.

I don't like this at all. Why trade your team HR/AB leader for mediocre talent? At least package him for something bigger.

Problem with Hoff is, when Aramis returns and interleague comes to an end, Hoff and Fox are both going to be difficult to work into the lineup. As I said erlier, if they do Soriano to 2nd and Fox to left, with Hoff occasioanlly fillinf in at LF, RF, and 1B that solves part of it, but I doubt that will happen.
