Can you post the ovation that Kerry got, too? I'm sorry I missed that.

I'll see what I can do. Gameday Audio usually just keeps the ballpark audio between innings where commercials would normally go, so I think I can do that. If it proves feasible, I'll include it when I post the highlights in this thread, so watch here later on.

Wow... I thought we were gonna drop this one for sure. But, in the back of my mind, I was thinking, "well, there was that game against the Rockies in 08..." and that's why I didn't turn it off.

Soriano is still a horrible excuse for a baseball player but at least we won.

Wrong.

If Soriano stops swinging at that slider and takes his walk like he did there the cubs offense would be in pretty good shape.

Well... that's a pretty big "if". Soriano has never taken walks and he's always swung at bad pitches. He is a HORRIBLE baseball player, who just happens to have the ability to hit mistakes out of the ballpark. There also isn't a single aspect of his game that suggests he should hit leadoff. Look at this quote from Lou:

"We've been through this many times," Piniella sighed. "When we signed Alfonso, he was a leadoff hitter. We've won two divisions with him being a leadoff hitter. What else can I say? He's struggling. We just got to hope he gets hot."

He was not a leadoff hitter, ever. He just bats first because he's a whiny little girl when he doesn't. We've also been swept in the first round twice with him being a leadoff hitter. The problem with Soriano, is that even when he is hot, he is still a horrible leadoff hitter! Lou thinks that he is being a productive leadoff hitter when he is hitting long balls, and that is just not the case. He should be hitting long balls with people on base.

wow i was hiking today and checked my phone for the time at around 5, and saw that i randomly had cell service (up in north-central PA there's almost no service anywhere). checked a couple of phone messages and then the cubs score, saw it was 7-1, assumed it was a loss. guess not!

Holy crap. Saw at one point that it was 7-2 and decided to do some work instead of watching the game. Too bad I didn't tune in.

Hopefully these last two games are the start of something good.

Derrek Lee's line after the...

May 16 game: .198/.278/.337/.615

June 19 game: .285/.361/.490/.851

Awesome.

An increase of .087/.083/.153/.236 over the last month. Not bad at all.

Starting with that May 16 game (which actually increased his OPS) through yesterday, he had a line of .361/.441/.567/1.008. And that's before today's game.

I get off work at 3:30. I get in the car, and realize I hadn't checked the ballgame all afternoon. My radio is already on The Score, and they're doing an update right then, so I decide I'll listen to that for the score before I flip to WGN.

David Schuster comes on to tell me that it's the 3rd inning and the Cubs are down 6-0. He then proceeds to say, and I'm paraphrasing here..."For all practical purposes, this game is over."

I swear, if this is the start of the upturn that turns this season into a third consecutive epic ride into the post-season, only to top off the journey with a third consecutive epic post-season failure, I'm going to lose it. If Cobs baseball is going to be exciting again, at least have the courtesy to force a game 5, or don't even bother waking up.

I can't explain it and I am sure to catch hell for this but...I have a good feeling about this game for some reason.

I said I can't explain it.

this, typed before the bottom of the 8th inning began, is quite impressive.

Boy, it's starting to feel like 2008 again. Not only with the actual team but with the game threads also. Nice to see everyone excited about Cubs baseball again.

Man, I had to leave for work right after Bradley made the first out in the bottom of the 9th. I couldn't watch the rest, but I had a good feeling that they'd somehow pull it off after coming back to 7-6. I'm glad that feeling turned out to be valid.

When has Soriano been a "whiny little girl" with the Cubs when he hasn't been in the leadoff spot?

And I cannot fathom how he is a horrible leadoff hitter when he's hot. The goal of a leadoff hitter is to cross home plate. Soriano, when he's hot, just singlehandedly accelerates the process.

Check his posts 2 games ago. It's stopped clock optimism.
