They'll both get legitimate standing ovations in their first appearances and from then on the hope will be that DeRosa can't help but pull off the ball and keep making outs as he did occasionally while here and that Woody has that problem where he can't locate any of his pitches.

Or we can just hope to have a nice lead so we don't have to see wood do anything but spit sunflower seeds this whole series.

Naw, I want him to appear in a non-save situation (hopefully on the business end of the blowout stick) so he can get a proper ovation.

What will be the reaction tomorrow? Personally I hope Dero does bad so it looks better for us

He's having an excellent season regardless of how he does in this series. I hope that continues. He's one of my favorite Cubs.

It would be nice to have a guy like DeRo on the team that could cover 3rd now that Aram is out, and could give Bradley, Soriano, and Lee the occasional day off. If only we had someone like that....

Well that too.

We have Aaron Miles now, so who needs DeRosa. Just because DeRosas good at baseball and Miles isnt, is that really worth a few extra mil?

He doesn't hit left handed, so he can't be all that valuable.

I hope he does bad so it increases the chances the Cubs win. Why would you care about whether it "looks better" for the Cubs? Unless you're Hendry?

I'll be there tomorrow and Sunday.

You can bet I'll be cheering for DeRo to get out, and for Woody to get hit.

They no longer wear the correct uniform. It's nothing personal.

I had to miss this game. Did Woody and DeRo get their ovations?

Indeed they did.

DeRo and Wood are still two of my five favorite Cubs ever, so I'm glad they got the welcome they deserved. Also, I'm glad DeRo's offense wasn't enough and Wood blew the save, because Cubs Win will always be more important.

DeRosa got a standing ovation as a pinch hitter, in a tie game, in the 8th inning on Saturday. Anyone who took part in that should be barred from Wrigley for life.

That was embarrassing.

If by embarrassing you mean absolutely awesome, than I completely agree with you.

Seriously, why is that embarrassing? I think it's outstanding.

He had already been "ovated" the day before. No reason to give him a standing O every game. As a position player the ovation in his first PA makes sense. Applauding him the next game in a big situation is pretty ridiculous. The guy was a nice player for the Cubs for 2 years. That's it. He was no hero or superstar.

Considering that the vast majority of the people attending the second game were not there at the first game, i think it's perfectly fine that they choose to ovate him

I was there Sat and as soon as they announced DeRo as PH and the crowd gave him the standing O, I looked at my 3 buddies and said "thats effing ignorant, you dont do that at this point of the game". They all agreed. Had it been the 1st inning or whatever fine, but I seriously think there are alot of Cubs fans who wouldve cheered had he got a hit at that point in the game. Edited by Keener98

If he gets traded to the Mets will it be okay to give him a standing O again as long as you didn't see him the first three games?

A) He was a pretty good player for 2 years, not some returning hero.

B) You give the guy a standing O for his first PA, not the first opportunity you personally get to see him live in Wrigley Field.

It was a really, really critical situation late in a ballgame where DeRosa could have beaten us. And yet, Cubs fans rose together and gave a standing ovation to an opposing player. Who played for the Cubs for two seasons. Who had already received a standing ovation the day before. It's dumb.

And like Jersey said, DeRosa was a nice player. That's it. He wasn't some Cubs legend. I fail to grasp how DeRosa has become one of the most popular Cubs of the last 20 years.

He's a very good looking white dude who has an Ivy League education and is very well spoken. He was also a valuable contributor to the team the last two years. In short, he's everything the fans at Wrigley love in a player.
