Is our curse that bad that even players that are rumored to come to the Cubs have bad things happen to them? First he almost gets traded to methville and now he's hurt.

Meh. I doubt we were going to trade for him anyway at this point. Our starting pitching is our strongpoint.

Well, looks like it's gonna be more than a month...

Jake Peavy may be out for as long as 12 weeks, according to Padres trainer Todd Hutcheson.

An MRI revealed longitudinal tearing in the posterior tibialis tendon in his right ankle. Translation: it isn't good. He will be wearing a cast for at least a month and the medical staff will then re-evaluate the ankle at that time

suck it, kevin towers

Oh dex...... :-))

Nonetheless, this allows the Cubs to use what resources they have to improving the offense, if they chose to.

no but seriously, this is actually good news... at least in terms of this season. if the brewers or cards had gotten him they'd be looking pretty tough

Jake Peavy-S- Padres Jun. 29 - 10:15 am et

Jake Peavy (ankle) is hoping to begin a rehab assignment in three weeks.

It's quite the lofty goal for a guy who hasn't even thrown off a mound once since hitting the disabled list on June 9. Peavy is scheduled to be examined by Padres medical director Dr. Steven Copp on Tuesday, and is hoping the doc will give him the green light to begin throwing and working out.

Doesnt sound like a guy who will be ready by the trade deadline in exactly 1 month. Maybe in august, but I cant imagine him safely making it through waivers.

Didn't think it deserved its own thread, but apparently Brandon Webb will seek 3 additional opinions on his shoulder this week. Sounds like he could be out for some time and it's in serious doubt if he can ever be as effective as he used to be.

Webb (shoulder) will seek three additional opinions before taking a course of action for treatment, the Arizona Republic reports. One of the stops will be a visit with Dr. James Andrews, which is generally cause for queuing up the ominous tones (if getting five opinions about a bad shoulder doesn't do so on its own). Webb's status for the remainder of the season remains in doubt, but the bigger issue now may be his future health with free agency on tap this winter.
