if this doesn't get changed, i'm probably not going to trade anybody within the season. why would i? why trade teix or peavy for the 14th pick of the 1st round when i can just wait and trade him for the 3rd pick of the 1st round after the season.

It seems logical to me that a player's trade value would be higher during the season than after. For example, last offseason we talked about me trading my 1st round pick to you for Prince Fielder, but I decided against it because I didn't want to have to carry his points. However, during the season I'd be much more likely to make such a trade (and perhaps even include a minor leaguer as well) because it would increase my chances of winning that season. So I don't think your analogy of trading Peavy for the 14th pick during the season vs. the 3rd pick after the season is valid, because I think during the season somebody would offer you more than just the first round pick.

But if you're willing to trade Peavy during the season for a 1st round pick, let's talk. :D

while i disagree with pretty much everything you've said in this thread, thanks for boosting peavy's trade value.

I think what you posted that I said last year is out of context. My point was that the people making the trades after the season were not properly leveraging their positions. If you know someone has to drop a top player, why give them a top pick for that player? What Tim and Don have done is leveraged the weaknesses of other owners. I am not sure I think this is a problem beyond people making bad trades and particularly overvaluing prospects and not understanding cap leverage.

You'd be fine implementing a rule that benefits your current situation where you can trade as many of your current players as you want for whatever draft picks you can get for them. However, anyone that wants to trade those same players later in the year shouldn't be allowed to do so?

you're not doing it "later" in the year, you're doing it after the season. you really don't see the difference?

I'm having difficulty in seeing how this is fair.

but it's fair for you to trade your first round pick for a stud now and then trade the same stud for even better first round draft picks after the season? so you essentially get a free stud for three months and an upgraded draft pick?

I think you are repeatedly throwing a strawman argument out there with no basis in fact.

well, yeah, that's obviously part of the problem...people making stupid trades.

for the reasons i already went through, i think it's a really dumb procedure. but if we're leaving how it is now, whatever, i just want to know before i trade off my entire team.

and if we're going to continue to allow post-season trades of draft picks, anybody making me an offer may as well tack on a draft pick to whatever offer they're going to make since i'll just assume you're going to get one back for the player i'm giving.

Good luck making any trades.

why do you care if you (or anybody) throws in a 2nd rounder for teixeira? you'll be getting one back (at worst) after the season anyway.

Because there's no guarantee you'll do that.

The price I'd be willing to pay has dropped significantly now that Peavy is out for at least a month. :D

I've been after Peavy since day one. I'm still pissed at Fishbulb for taking less from Juan than what I would have offered.

Injury or not, I'm still interested in Peavy. However, I'm not going to "throw in" extra draft picks for him.

I haven't read all of this thread, but I just want to say that I would not be in favor of a ban on post season trading. True, I think that some teams have been taken advantage of, but that is part of the game. I would hate to see this league ruled and regulated to death.

I'm not in favor of banning 1st round pick trading or post season trading.

Guys just need to be smarter about how much they give up for a player after the season.

It looks like I will be going back to sell mode after this week. Not really sure how my team competes against an all star team.

Good luck unloading all these guys at the end of the season, Don.

maybe people will realize that making your opponent weaker also improves your standing.
