I think the offense is actually average or slightly above average statistically with the bases empty but beyond anemic with runners on.

*sigh*, I gues we just have a bad offense. A well paid offense, but a bad one non the less. Yeah, we put some runs on the board from time to time, but even bad offenses can have a big game sometimes. As the Padres showed, they can even have a 10 game hitting streak, but when the dust is cleared, they are what they are. Hopefully the rotation can keep us in it until Ramirez returns.
