What is with Aaron Crow? I hate it when players don't sign like this. Its one thing to have teams like the Yankees with unreal budgets, but another thing when teams smaller teams can't draft the best player available because of signability issues. We already limit what young player can do in terms of compensation with arbitration and free agency. They need to find a way to fix this end.

What happened with Crow?

The A's reportedly signed Max Stassi today. He got a $1.5M bonus, a record for a fourth-rounder.

Per BA:

The Rays have announced that they have broken off talks with first-round pick Levon Washington and also don't expect to sign second-rounder Kenny Diekroger.

Ouch.

It'll be interesting to see how it plays out for next year as far as having 4 picks in the top 2 rounds. They had several overslot guys espec. with Halm and James.

FYI, Jake Locker signed a 2-sport deal with the Angels for a $200,000 bonus. I was pretty stunned when they popped him in the 10th round but it looks like they did their homework after all.

Looks like the Royals are going to sign Crow in the near future. Link

The Kansas City Royals are on the verge of an agreement with their No. 1 draft pick, pitcher Aaron Crow, for a major league deal that will pay him between $3 million and $4.5 million, sources said.

I hate to be the jackass bumping super old threads, but I was kind of curious as to what was being said about Trout back when he was drafted so I looked through this thread a little bit.

why is jackson not wanted?

strikes out too much.

These people (along with a bunch of other people pleading for him to be taken before we came up) were pretty dead on.

Trout:

boy this kid is an exciting interview

On rain days, I was like, man, I can't play today.

Haha. Here's this interview.

Harold: "What are people gonna remember from this draft? Strasburg and Trout"

Well, I'll be [expletive] damned if Harold Reynolds wasn't extremely right about something.

Everyone here is regularly wrong about these kind of things, but man, when Meph was wrong he tended to be SPECTACULARLY wrong. It's oddly impressive.
