For as crappy as we played, we had a winning road trip and won a road series against a team ahead of us in the standings.

Cubs had no business winning this game, but a win is a win I suppose. Hopefully the offense woke up.

We actually should have won it hours ago. Remember our 2 run lead heading into the 7th?

Yeah, but I chose to focus on the 8709870980 RISP that didn't score. :)

Three more games left on the trip, let's not speak too soon.

Guzman is just absolutely fantastic. Love him.

FWIW, I got in my car from Subway just as the 14th inning started, right before Soriano homered.

So does Guz get the set up job for now? Marmol has no concept of where the K zone is, and its not like Guz is some guy whose coming out of nowhere, he was the ontime top prospect in the organization. Some saw him as a savior. I remember after the 2003 season all the talk of the future unbeatable rotation of Prior/Wood/Z/Guzman

Crap, I forgot that we are still going to Houston for the third time already this year. Well if we win one more we at least have a .500 trip, win the series and we have a winning trip.

I remember Peter Gammons bringing him us as the wave of talent in the future that the Cubs had on Baseball Tonight back in 2003. He had major potential. I think a bullpen role is a very good one for him to be in with his injury issues. He was pretty close to being given up on by the Cubs, so I'm really happy that we found a way that he could contribute for the Cubs.

Where's reds44?

He got a little time off after last night's trolling.

Such a shame...

Can't believe he made it almost 900 posts before randomly becoming a trollish poster.

they were considering giving up on him as recently as spring training. I remember it came down to him or Gaudin.

We face Moehler, who we have had trouble against, Wandy who everyone has trouble against at home, and Hampton who you never know what to expect. I think we should be able to scratch out at least 1 win, hopefully more.

3.5 games out. That's not too bad for a team that sucks. I'm not sure how long our pitching staff can keep this up though. We really, really, really, need to start hitting more consistently.

If the offense doesn't start producing soon, I fear we'll see a series much like what the Cards did in Colorado this weekend. While I enjoyed that, I don't think it would be as amusing if it happened to the Cubs....again.

I was just looking at some stats and saw that the Cubs were tied for 4th in MLB in starters ERA for the year (3.81), and that includes a somewhat shaky start.

Another interesting stat is situational hitting. With RISP we are 3rd to last in the league in OPS (.699 vs. .733 normally), BA (.233 vs. .249 normally) and runs scored (158).

Last year in those categories, we were 3rd in OPS (.819 vs. .699 this year), 7th in BA (.278 vs. .233) and 3rd in runs scored (669 vs. on pace for just 474 this year). Big reason why we are on pace to score 162 runs less than last year. Do I have any idea how to solve it? No. Just pointing it out.

I'm just verklempt. I find out the score, get home, fire up Gameday Audio and find out that Judd Sirott was on the call for Soriano's go-ahead HR. Whyyyyyyyy

the d-bags were up 6-1 going into the 9th inning and imploded, much to the chagrin of people who have danny haren on two of their four fantasy teams and are sick and tired of getting screwed out of wins. anyway, DAVID ECKSTEIN of all people hit a 3-run homer to tie it in the 9th, and now they're in the bottom of the 17th.

They finally kinda have a big league team now.

SS josh wilson now pitching for the padres. according to gameday he's actually throwing in the mid to high 80s and has touched 90.

he actually got 2 outs and had mark reynolds in an 0-2 count, but worked it back to full and then gave up a 3 run homer.
