he probably did juice, but he also corked

Which actually doesn't help hitters.

lol...which one?...because the last time i checked they both did

Numerous studies have shown that corked bats generally don't improve hitting, especially in regards to power. At the most it's going to increase the speed of the swing, but it still ultimately comes down to the hitter's eye and timing so that's arguably a wash.

Besides, he got caught, he served his time. Done and done, plus it's unlikely he was using them before the downward slide after the shattered helmet.

Uh, yeah. "Generally" was me being generous. Corked bats and their like are actually detrimental more often than not to a hitter, especially a power hitter, since the cork inside actually allows the bat to absorb more of the energy from the ball. The only "benefit" from them is being able to swing quicker, though that could be accomplished with a legit lightened bat that won't absorb the energy from the ball and kill the distance of your hits.

And argue the "unlikely" part besides using the bold function. Sammy wouldn't have had the numbers he had if he was using corked bats.

no, i read about it before i bolded those things...apparently they can make the ball fly funny though...but it does cause a slightly decreased power compared to a normal wooden bat...

what if i don't want to argue the "unlikely" part...what if i only wanted to point it out

you can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes you just might find you get what you need

The point is that he has a history of cheating

Cynosure is the gift that keeps on giving.

Believe it or not, the thing that finally got him onto my ignore list was his sig.

I can deal with potential idiocy in every post... even cubswin2009 doesn't manage it every single time. A stupid sig guarantees it though.

So does the game of baseball in general. I really don't see the point in flipping out over someone using a corked bat when most players are doing every little thing they can to gain an advantage. It's part of baseball. Keeping someone out of the hall for that would be like keeping out one of the best pitchers of an era because he got caught once with sandpaper.

Like I said, he got caught for the bat and was suspended. That shouldn't keep him out. Like it or not, nothing and nobody has come even remotely close to busting him when it comes to steroids. That doesn't mean he didn't use them, but for now he should be judged based on his performance. The corked bat should have negligable impact in that regard since use of them over his career would have been detrimental to his numbers.

Dude... it's obvious.

I like Sammy as much as the next guy and hate him for bailing on us... but the fact is... just look at it...

Don't act surprised when his name comes up in the next few years.

A guy busts his career home run average of 37 four times after the age of 32, including having his career HR-year at age 37.

Yeah, he's clean.

I don't care if his name does come up.

Bonds should be in the HOF. So should Clemens and McGwire and Sosa. We need to stop acting like sniveling children in denial and treating this game like it's some kind of pure institution that was tainted by steroids in the 90's and early 00's.

if we all put cyno on our ignore lists, we can make the world a better place.

are there actually those among us that think Sosa was clean? please

We're in America. Innocent until proven guilty? I agree, I'm 99% sure Sosa did steroids, but is it fair to penalize him and lump him with confirmed steroid users when there is absolutely no proof that suggests he ever touched steroids.

sniveling children in denial?

no, i prefer to look at it as men that have let many hearts down

men that have spit in the face of fair competition

men that were already endowed with gifts that were beyond greedy

or better yet...put them in the hall...a special corner spot called "PEDS"...i could live with that

I just meant that the cork incident is relevant in the speculation of him using drugs because it shows that he has cheated before

If I pointed out the benefits of moving from being an impoverished and malnourished young man to being a multimillionaire with access to wonderful nutrition and exercise equipment, would it suggest there are methods of vastly improving his production and physical size that don't necessarily involve steroids? How about pointing out how his production skyrocketed at the same time Jeff Pentland finally taught him to lay off the breaking ball low and away?

There's just as much anecdotal evidence to suggest he's innocent as guilty. I can absolutely understand harboring some doubts about him, but the only logical thing to do is error on his side... after all, later evidence could certainly arrive to prove he actually used steroids. It's an impossibility for anybody to prove they didn't use. To assume his guilt at this point, with no actual evidence... it's beyond irresponsible.

Simply ponder this for a moment. Suppose he didn't use. What do you tell him? "Tough luck, buddy. You shouldn't have worked out so hard in the gym and with the batting coach."?
