Wow I didn't realize Junior Lake was doing so badly defensively. 13 errors at SS already this year.

He's been moved all around the field, as memory serves me. I know he's also logged time at 2B and has made one or two appearances at 3B.

Castro and he have racked up the errors. But both have the range and tools to be above average or better defenders at shortstop.

Vitters seems to get hit a lot. Does he stand on top the plate like Soriano?

I believe Outshined_One said this was true a few weeks ago.

Rough outing for Searle - 3.1 IP, 7 H, 6 ER, 3 BB, 1 K, 3 GO-5 FO. Castro is 0/1 with a walk!!

I did! He does a good job of taking away the inside corner.

Infield single for Vitters! Sounded like a legit hit though just a nice stop by the third basemen who had no play. Thrown out at the plate on the next pitch though.

Archer is really dealing; should we expect him to be in the farm's top ten next year?

Only if he can keep his control problems at bay and have success at high-A (remember, he's repeating A-ball right now).

ETA: Holy crap, he's dealing!!

Archer is done.

5 IP/0 ER (2 unearned)/ 9 K's/ 1 BB

Really nice to only see 2 BB's in the last 10 innings to go along with the 17 strikeouts he has in those two starts.

Is Archer a power pitcher?

He has a 90-95 mph FB, a good curve and he has a cutter too.

I'm not sold on promoting him. I'd say when guys are walking more than 5-per-9, they've got some serious control issues still to work on. Archer obviously has some excellent stuff. But he's got some work to do. I'm thrilled that he's stretched together two stellar appearances. But I'd prefer to leave him alone, and see if he can make pitching with control the rule, not the exception.

Great to see Hart with a couple of sharp games.

Thomas has gone into a pretty serious slump.

Gaub has struggled.

To answer a bunch of comments from tonight..Archer probably isn't going anywhere until he extends his pitch count past 75...and his control improves. But he does have great stuff.

Vitters stands close to the plate. That is true.

Lake had 14 errors, 13 at SS, 1 at second. He has the worst fielding percentage for all SS in the MWL.

And our defense is not bad. We are 6th in the MWL in fielding percentage. 48 errors. Clinton who we are playing has 81. now THAT is bad...

and sorry the feed went out tonight for about a half inning. There was a power surge at the station and we got it back on as soon as we could. Thanks for listening!!

In regards to the number of errors that are committed, remember it's A-ball. This is the lowest level of full season ball, most of the guys out there are going to commit their share of errors and make fundamental mistakes. It's one of the reasons they're not at a higher level.
