Of course, DeRosa remains a good option as well.

It always seems to come back to the stupidity of trading DeRosa in the first place.

DeRosa over the past 28 days: .308/.378/.508/.886

His current season OPS is .777 and rising.

But he hits from the wrong side of the plate, and in the end, thats all that matters.

The key is the first three words in your post. With the way the offense is going, who cares which side of the plate he hits from. As for worrying about the playoffs, let's get there first.

My failure to use green font strikes again.

The clear answer at 3rd Base: GEOFF BLUM

Sure, get a crappy player just because they used to give trouble. Remember Jeff Blauser? How about Aaron Miles?

The sad thing is hed be a legit upgrade to what we have now.

If we wanted to get somethig right now, the best we could probably get is Felipe Lopez whod be somewhat of an upgrade or Ronnie Belliard, whose having a beyond brutal season. The only possible upside of Belliard is hed probably only cost a PTBNL and the hope that he can give us something.

Lopez might be a decent target. Have you seen the D Backs depth chart? They have 3 outfielders, 0 first baseman, 4 middle infielders, 1 third baseman and 4 starting pitchers.

The problem with Lopez (and some of the other "slight upgrades") is that he isn't an impact type of player to possibly spark the offense. I don't think there's anyone out there that could provide the possible impact we need, especially with the discussion of no money to spend. Someone like Edmonds, Gaetti, etc.

kind of thinking out loud here, but what about Johnny Peralta? he's 27 years old and can play 3B and SS. i'm completely ignorant to what the Indians have in their system who's capable of replacing Peralta.

contract-wise he's due $4.6 million in 2010 and has a $7 million club option in 2011. he's been up and down over the last few years. this year he's put up a line of .255/.336/.344 which is pretty bad, but sadly much better than the .218/.310/.307 line the Cubs are getting from 3B the last 30 days (about when Ramirez went down). Peralta has a line of .270/.336/.436 over the last three seasons. i'm not sure what other positions he'd be capable of playing, if any. at 27, he still has a chance for some improvement and if he can get back to what he did in 07 and 08, perhaps he'd be a possible long-term option at SS or 2B.

some of the red flags are that his LD% is down quite a bit for some reason (perhaps his elbow injury?) and the fact that he should be in his prime already considering age and experience. there's a chance he wouldn't improve from what he's doing now.

I'm starting to wonder if Derosa might actually be coming back. Between Crane Kenney's radio interview today, Jake Fox sitting and Hafner's shoulder injury there might be enough to speculate that Jake+ brings him back.

What did Kenney say in his interview?

Basically that Hendry never would have traded Derosa if he had anticipated Aram going down for this length of time. Also, reacquiring a player with a contract like Derosa wouldn't require Zell's approval. The fact that Crane even slightly acknowledged it was a mistake makes me think they might swallow their pride. That along with a couple other unfounded suspicions make me think there's a chance.

Thanks for the recap.

It's just so unlikely that I have my doubts, but it'd be fantastic to bring him back. If they're going to do it, though, they better do it soon - DeRo's starting to hit now and his value will rise quickly if he continues.

I just dont think Cleve is going to be trading him anytime soon. They are far from out of that division, and are starting to play better baseball. Plus they are starting to get healthy. I think it would take a pretty damn good package(that we dont have) to get him back right now. Maybe if they fall out of it more by July 31, but right now Id be shocked if it happened.

But yea, I think DeRo is exactly the type of player we need to spark this offense a little bit, and would be awesome if we could get him back.

Cleveland really is a mystery right now. They're just as likely to start shopping Cliff Lee as they are to start picking up pieces and trying to make a run. If they do become sellers I wonder what it would take to get Shin-Soo Choo? I know he has two year mandatory military service and he must do it by the time he's 30 which means he has to start serving in 2010. It's the only reason I would think the Indians would even consider shopping him.

They were discussing this on the ESPN broadcast tonight. They mentioned that Choo could simply not report for his service time, but it would essentially mean he could never return home to South Korea again. Quite a choice.

What if in a three way trade, We get Choo, the Indians get some South Korean military to be named later, and South Korea military gets Aaron Miles?

If Derosa keeps hitting like this, he's not gonna be cheap to reacquire.

That's what concerns me. I doubt we'd go after him again, but if we do, now would be the time - before his value shoots through the roof.

If he does keep hitting, and thr Indians do decide to trade him, I wouldnt be surprised if he carries a similar price tag to Holliday due to his versatility. More teams seem to be in need of an infielder than an outfielder, and DeRo can do both. If you are going to go for a rent a player, it may as well be one you can plug into your everyday lineup without moving too many guys around.
