Seriously, after the way the last 100 years went, the big moment wasnt going to come with a monster 97 win season and storming all the way to the end. It was going to come with a difficult season when they have to claw their way to the top through a roller coaster ride and overcoming every obstacle you can imagine. Its going to come on the last out of game 7 of the World Series, and it will be vs. the Red Sox or Yankees, not the Royals or Rays.

Repeat of the Cardinals, who didn't win the Series two years in a row when they ran away with the division but did win it the next year when they squeaked into the playoffs with the worst record of any postseason team in history. I don't care if the Cubs win the division; I'll take the wild card. Just get in, and anything can happen.

Id rather face the Mets or Phillies than the Dodgers, who with or without Manny are pound for pound the best team in the NL.

You keep saying that like it's a sure thing when it's really not at all.

Never know sometimes these things happen when nobody expects it. The 2006 Cards are the obvious example. The 2004 Red Sox were down 3-0 to the Yankees so nobody expected THAT to happen. Even the 2005 White Sox......as badly as that team struggled to hang onto the division title I don't think anyone expected them to win it either.

Cubs have too many holes right now for me to even think that way though. *sigh*

Their pitching ranges from promising youngsters to piece of trash veterans. That's not a good combination for a team that wants to compete.

Randy Wolf is not going to maintain a 2.95 ERA. The Dodgers would be idiots to have Clayton Kershaw pitch over 200 innings.

The 2005 San Diego Padres (82-80) were actually 1.5 games worse than the 2006 Cardinals (83-78).

You're right; I'd forgotten about the Fathers. OK, ONE of the worst.

Given a choice between the Cubs sailing through the regular season with 95 plus games and going to the world series OR struggling to get there...I'd rather go with the struggling. It's sure not fun going through it, but it's much more sweeter in the end. Trials and tribulations bring much more joy.

Hopefully, this will end well.

That's how I feel, too many holes in this team. There are issues with key injuries, shaky (at best) bullpen, lack of timely hitting, lack of general offense, and questionable defense. It's not a matter of wanting to jump ship, just wondering if you're even on a ship at all!

Bullpens sometimes improve dramatically over the course of the season. It could happen for the Cubs. And fixing that bullpen would be a huge help.

I'm not throwing in any towels, but I agree -- it's difficult to get past the present gloom and think about glory.

Both Angel Guzman and David Patton are candidates for major improvements throughout the season given their youth (Patton) and inexperience (both).

I think Heilman will settle in as well given time.

As others have said, the way our bullpen is pitching now, there's no way we could win a single playoff game. We probably wouldn't be able to make the playoffs in the first place.

Personally, I'd prefer the Cubs win 125 games in the regular season and go 11-0 in the playoffs to win the whole thing.

Count me in for that bandwagon.
