Im intrigued by the idea of Pedro, Byrd, Sheets, or even Mulder as a 5th starter and moving Marshall to the pen and 86 Cotts. I know its not fair to Marshall, whose been more than a solid #5, but whats best for the team is whats important.

I really wish we had a spot for Edmonds. I wonder if he could still play 1st.

Grudz, Eisley, and Durham are especially intriguing as guys who could come real cheap. If Hendry knew that these guys would probably be available on 1 year deals for about 1 mil at this point in time, I wonder he would have given Miles the contract that he did.

Im actually pretty surprised that the Yankees havnt taken a flyer out on Edmonds now that Nady may be out for the season.

They did have Swisher to move into that spot.

Geoff Jenkins interests me a bit. With Lou hating Hoff and MB MIA for months at a time, a Jenkins/Johnson platoon in RF/CF while MB is out isn't bad. IIRC Jenkins has a huge platoon split. Ditch Gathright for Jenkins. We have two CFers in Johnson and KF. Soriano could play out there in a pinch. Theriot could too.

If Fontenot stays horrible, Ray Durham would be a great pickup. He almost always OPSs around .800 and has some power, and hes a switch hitter to make Lou happy. Wait, why did why sign Aaron Miles instead of this guy?

Because Miles is a white Jose Macias, capable of playing many positions, none of them well.

We do have a spot for Edmonds. Unfortunately it was taken by Joey Gathright.

that's pretty much what i took from that list as well. i'd take Edmonds over Gathright in a nano-second.

The list of guys I wouldnt take over Gathright in a nano-second is very short. Still the only way they would take on Edmonds is if Bradley were to miss significant time or Kosuke were to have another summer collapse. Otherwise, your left juggling playing time between 3 quality lefty outfielders, and Reed Johnsons left rotting away at the end of the bench aside from the occasional pinch hit opprtunity against a loogy or defensive subbing, and while I dont feel that Reed is every day starter on a contending team material, hes too good to be a 5th outfielder.

If they wanted to get real creative, they have some options. With Ramirez out (and Fontenot the only option at 3B), slide Soriano to 2B and platoon Reed/Edmonds in LF. You're basically replacing Miles' bat with Reed/Edmonds.

That's pretty far fetched and obviously wouldn't happen. Just thinking outside the box, I guess.

But that would be the worst defensive infield since 1887 when the Nashville Green Legs fielded a dying grizzly bear and a 81 year old drunken amputee.
