LHP Jayson Ruhlman promoted from Tennessee to Iowa.

RHP Marcos Mateo promoted from Daytona to Tennessee.

RHP Jose Pina promoted from Peoria to Daytona.

RHP Andrew Cashner taken off DL, promoted from extended spring training to Daytona.

RHP Justin Bristow promoted from extended spring training to Peoria.

Bristow is coming back from an ulnar nerve transposition that caused him to miss the beginning of the season. He will start for the Chiefs on Sunday against Cedar Rapids at 2:00 pm.

So i should probably be going to these Chiefs games, huh. They have a bunch of the better position prospects, right?

yes

Chiefs SQUEAK by with a walk-off two-RBI trible by Josh Harrison..

The pen gave up 3 in the top of the 9th, but the Chiefs were able to score 3 in the bottom of the ninth for the walk-off win!

Great finish, and great call by Nathan in Peoria!

Looks like Mateo started for Tennessee with Russell piggybacking. Pitched 3.2 innings but struggled to find the zone, 4 walks and only 31 strikes in 61 pitches. But, he only gave up one hit, struck out three and 5/2 GO/FO. Maybe he had some nerves but a good start.

Cashner: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K, 0 GO-4 FO

Cashner can't escape the 3rd without reaching his pitch count, but he leaves with a respectable 2.2 IP, 1 ER, 1 single, 1 BB, 2 K line. He also hit a batter and one man reached on an error by Castro(who now has 4 already).

In the 3rd: HBP, walk, single to load the bases, fly out and a sac fly before Cashner was pulled. Cashner must have hit his pitch count. Williamson got the 3rd out without anymore damage.

2.2 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 1 HBP, 0 GO-6 FO for his season debut.

Anybody heard anything about a Colvin injury? He got pinch-hit for last night in the 8th and now he isn't starting today. One or the other might seem like normal usage, but both doesn't seem quite right.

OK, couple of things to mention from Sunday's game:

First, not sure what was going on with Andersen, but Kelly (Chiefs trainer) didn't spend any time asking Cliff if he wanted to try and walk it off, so am wondering if it was something that had been bothering him in the recent past. That said, his single should have been a double, but he just got to first. Hope it's nothing too serious, as he seems to do well in the lead-off role.

Second, there were a couple of plays at 3rd that it seemed like Vitters should have had. Not sure if it was positioning or what, and perhaps I'm expecting too much, but was kinda hoping that some of those XBHs to the left-field corner wouldn't happen as frequently. We'll see...

It was good to see fewer walks today...Bristow must have been on a strict pitch count, and he still has some work to do to get back to where he needs to be, but Beliveau looked great.

Finally, as heartwrenching as the top of the 9th was, the bottom of the 9th provided for excellent entertainment and offense. The entertainment came from Nelson Perez and Mike Brenly - Perez had what could have been a triple, but with Brenly running ahead of him, they practically crossed on the base paths! Earth to Nelson - the CATCHER is in front of you! Don't expect a ton of speed! Perez got back to 2nd (no one was covering the bag, thank goodness), but it looked a little keystone copper-y :) Campana & Harrison put things away - it's interesting to see the dynamic between these 2 college teammates - Campana did a diving sprawl on to home plate and all of us in the crowd were going nuts. A good day for the Chiefs. Hopefully we'll be able to keep the rain away tonight.

Knoxville News-Sentinel"]"He's got good stuff," Sandberg said.

Only 31 of Mateo's 61 pitches were in the strike zone, although control hadn't been an issue at Daytona.

"He might have been a little excited," Sandberg said. "That was his former team so it's understandable he was pumped."

The Cubs obtained Mateo in a trade from the Cincinnati Reds and placed him on their 40-man roster.

The 25-year-old Dominican started in place of James Russell. Russell came out of the bullpen and allowed three hits and two unearned runs in 3 1/3 innings.

"He and Russell will piggyback for two or three starts," Sandberg said. "We'll see how that goes. It could be a good tandem."

Daytona News-Journal"]Rosa was 0-for-4 Saturday and came out for some early work Sunday with hitting coach Richie Zisk.

"I talked to Richie and I was able to make some adjustments and hit the ball a little better," Rosa said. "Richie told me I was collapsing on the back side and I tried really hard to work on that and stay on the ball. I always believe I can do a little bit better."

...

Cashner's fastball was in the 91-93 mph range and topped out at 96 mph in his 2 2/3 innings. He struck out two and allowed one run on a hit, a walk and a hit batter.

"Cashner was really solid the first two innings and got himself in a pickle with the hit batter and a walk in the third," Daytona manager Buddy Bailey said.

What is your impression of Perez? After 49 AB Perez has a .184 BA with 9 hits, 13 strikeouts, and 2 errors in the field. In Daytona.....Drew Rundle 7 hits, 18 s/o, .179 BA. Jonathan Wyatt 9 hits,8 s/o, .196 BA. In Tennessee....Richie Robnett 5 hits, 12 s/o, .122 BA. Brandon Guyer 7 hits,9 s/o, .146 BA. Do they have these outfielders slotted on the wrong ballclubs, or will they give them a few more weeks to see how things shake out before moving players around?

I have to imagine that Nelson Perez isn't going to get too many more chances to stick with the bat if he's demoted back to extended spring training.

In Peoria, outfielder Cliff Andersen was put on the 7-day DL. Taken off the DL was catcher Mario Mercedes.

ITI had a story on Cashner's performance with a bunch of quotes. They said Cashner worked 92-94 and topped out at 95.

Buddy Bailey said he might have fatigued in the 3rd and that he definitely struggled with his control a lot more from the stretch than from the windup.

I'd have to agree with this - guess he looks great in BP (I'm never there to see it, but have heard from staff), so guess he's got the capability for power. I've seen him make good contact in a couple of games, but continues to show inconsistency. The "flashes of brilliance" makes me think he would be better in EXT/Boise right now, but I suppose it depends on who else they may have in EXT that could take his place.

Yeah, he has prodigious power the rare times he can make contact.

I meant more along the lines that chances are good he'll be on the mound by next season if he can't get going in Peoria. He can get it up there at 96 mph.
