I'm watching the O's-Rangers right now. Tied 3-3 in the top of the 5th, the teams have combined for 5 HRs.

Pie drew a leadoff walk, and the next pitch was a hit and run with Izturis batting. He popped up the chin-high fastball, Pie had no idea where it went, and he got doubled off.

Brian Roberts immediately followed by roping a single to right field and bringing his average up to .438, with Adam Jones (.981 OPS) on deck.

How's that for in-game managing?

Also, Jerry Hairston Jr's 2-run HR (not a typo) off Manny Parra is the difference in a 3-1 score in the 5th between Cincy and Milwaukee.

The 1st just ended in the STL-ARI game. It's 0-0.

I'm trying to get the most useless post ever.

Carpenter just left the STL Arizona game in the middle of the 4th inning. Cause and seriousness of injury presently unknown.

He was grabbing his side, so i guess the good news is it has nothing to do with the shoulder.

Good, I would really hate to see him go down with another shoulder injury (seriously). From a Cubs fan standpoint, I'd love having Carp not in the rotation, but from a human standpoint, I'd hate to see him work so hard to return and then get injured again. I've seen enough of that with Cubs pitchers, don't need to see it happen again.

Official announcement is it's a left ribcage strain.

I know this can't really be the case, but does it seem to anyone else like the number of these injuries to the ribcage and/or oblique muscles has absolutely skyrocketed in the last few seasons?

yeah, it seems like oblique injuries are on the rise. As for the ribcage thing, I'm pretty sure that's what it is. He did it during his ab, and winced and grabbed his left side during warmups. Nothing with his arm, so that's good.

In other news. Justin Upton is now 0-13 on the year.

He needs to be sent down. I don't think he has any confidence anymore. He was a highly regarded prospect that was brought up too early and besides a hot month to start 08 he has proven that he's not ready for the bigs yet, and leaving him there to sink or swim isn't working.
