White Sox get the starCF/leadoff man theyve been looking for

White Sox Agree To Deal With Scott Podsednik

By Tim Dierkes [April 14 at 12:13pm CST]

According to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, the White Sox agreed to a minor league deal with Scott Podsednik.

Podsednik played for the White Sox from 2005 through '07. He made the AL All-Star team in 2005 when he hit .290 and was second in the league in steals (59).

Podsednik played for the Colorado Rockies in 2008, appearing in 93 games and batting .253.

Rosenthal believes the move became necessary when center fielder Dewayne Wise left Monday's game with a separated right shouler. Wise will be placed on the disabled list and is expected to miss six to eight weeks.

In eight seasons, Podsednik has averaged .271/.337/.374 with 51 stolen bases and six home runs (based on 162-game avg.).

Why do they insist on killing two birds with one stone? This could be a terrible move. The Sox should just sign Patterson (on the condition Ozzie has to pencil him in at #9 every single game, or face immediate termination) and put Ramirez at "leadoff". They'll at least get fantastic defense and the occasional HR, if nothing else.

What is the WSox deal with retreads? KWilliams reminds me of a guy that breaks up with his girlfriend, dates around with no luck, and goes back with the old girlfriend again thinking it's going to work out better this time.

Greg Maddux, Steve Trachle, John Lieber, Jason DuBois, and Paul Bako were wondering the same thing. OK, its unfair to lump Maddux with that bunch, but by the time we got him back, he wasnt worth what we paid for him.

lol at Alexei Ramirez batting leadoff.

Podsednik isn't good at all, but it's not a terrible move seeing how it's a minor-league deal. Plus it's not like Jerry Owens and Dewayne Wise are future all-star CF's either.

Jimmy's probably a better defensive CF than Podsednik, so if it's between those 2, absolutely. They should really just stick Anderson out there for 2 months, and bat him 9th. Dye is a horrendous defender, and IIRC, Quentin is nothing special in LF. They really just need somebody to cover 2/3 of the OF for them in CF.
