Z is obviously a cause of concern now. That said, he's finally striking people out again.

I liked the younger version of Z better. The one who didn't strike out as many people, but threw a ton of ground balls and didn't throw as many pitches. He also didn't give up many homeruns.

For all those bullpen crybabies:

Our bullpen has a 2.79 ERA.

If you take out Kevin Gregg they have a 1.80 ERA.

What's the problem?

that you're using era to evaluate how good the bullpen has been

Well the past couple of years version of Z doesn't strike people out or get ground balls.

i'm worried about neal cotts. mostly i'm worried that he's still on the team.

As soon as a better lefty comes along, that worry will be off your mind. I get the feeling that Lou has Jim scowering around for one as we speak.

I miss Mike Wuertz.

It still ticks me off that he got in Lou's doghouse because he had a tendency to walk a couple guys and yet Bob Howry was basically throwing batting practice out there in 2008 yet Lou kept running him out there.

It's still early, but I expected Fontenot to be exposed a little later in the season. I wasn't expecting him to be a good everyday player, but I thought it would take longer than this. Hopefully it's just a slump.

And the guys they bring in for 2009 have a bunch of issues with walks.

Lou's dislike of Wuertz makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Agreed and if Cotts doesnt start getting the same treatment Wuertz got then its even more confusing.

I agree, I expected it to take a little longer too, but suspected his everyday numbers would be lower.

I was hoping for a longer grace period, and a more shallow decline from the bench numbers. Let's hope in the long run that plays out. Otherwise it's going to make me long for DeRosa even more.

My only "worry" (I don't even think I'd call it that) is Gathright. I just don't understand his purpose at this point. If he's not a defensive replacement late in games (I'm not necessarily saying he should be), then what is his purpose on the team? If Reed is the prefered option in CF late in games, then Gathright has no reason to even be on the roster.

I realize I'm pretty much preaching to the choir and it's not a big deal at this point, but that's pretty much all I can come up with to be worried about (which I guess is a good thing).

Kosuke dropping off again

?

you're worried about a guy who is OPSing over 1.000?

yep, not overtly worried, but until he proves this is the real fuku, then i will not be buying the hype
