Didn't the Astros not sign any of their top 5 picks from a draft a couple of years ago? Seems pretty scary to be a fan of that team, once the group there gets older they are done.

And then they traded the rest for Miguel Tejada.

wow, the shine's off the Angels, eh? I thought they were "stacked for years"

To be fair they've had some really good players graduate to the majors last half decade or so. Guys like FRod, Weaver, Santana, Saunders, Kendrick, Figgins, Mathis, Napoli, etc, etc. The major disappointments have been Aybar, Callaspo, WOOD (ESPECIALLY), Morales. Their farm system has been pretty good since 2000.

It seems like the Cards really shot up the charts. Wasn't their system pretty bad a couple years ago?

Yes. They managed to pick up some potential impact players (Rasmus and Wallace), some pretty good potential future roleplayers (Motte, Perez, Jones, etc.), and a ton of guys who currently are decent, but could break out and do really well for themselves.

They've also done a pretty good job in the draft, although it bears noting that they've kept themselves occupied in Latin America in recent years.
