Nationals Ink Joe Beimel, Cut Shawn Hill

By Drew Silva [March 18 at 2:55pm CST]

According to Chico Harlan of the Washington Post, the Nationals have agreed to terms with Joe Beimel on a one-year, $2MM deal. In a corresponding move, the Nats released starter Shawn Hill.

Wasnt it a few days ago that he was about to decide between the Rockies, A's and one of the other california NL teams?

Someone will surely take out a flyer on Shawn Hill.

wait, why the hell are the Nationals cutting Shawn Hill??

I'm assuming health reasons. Last year he sucked, got hurt and had elbow surgery, right?

VIERA, Fla. -- The Nationals put right-hander Shawn Hill on waivers Wednesday for the purpose of giving him his unconditional release. Hill will earn one-sixth of the $775,000 he was slated to receive this season.

The Nationals decided to make this move because of the uncertainty of Hill's health. Hill has yet to play a full season in the big leagues because of elbow and forearm problems.

It saves them $645,000.
