3 hits and a walk for the Cubs in the first but no runs thanks to a caught stealing and a strikeout with the bases loaded.

Lee, Ramirez, Soriano, Bradley, and Fukudome are all sitting today.

Gotta love Cubs baseball.

And by that I mean, "Does anybody know why Fukudome hasn't played yet??"

Isnt he playing for Japan in the WBC?

Yeah, he isn't supposed to be back with the Cubs until late spring training, unless the Cubs play Japan in their exhibition game against the WBC team.

Lilly gave up 1 hit and had 2 K's in the first.

The Cubs exploded in the 2nd. Deeds tripled, Rivas singled him in, Taguchi got on due to an error, Theriot singled, Reed got out but drove in Rivas. Then Hoffpauir hit a 3 run homer, followed by a Dubois out, then a Soto single, then a Fontenot homer. Deeds then singled and Rivas got out to end the inning.

So 7 runs in all and the Cubs lead 7-0.

Hoffpauir looking good is nice. Hopefully he can be the impact bat off the bench. I know we would like a more traditional 1B/3B guy, but I'll take Hoffpauir's bat and live with Fontenot or Miles playing 3B when Aramis has his annual 2 week DL vacation in May. We're good enough to survive a 5-10 stretch when he's on the DL.

Hopefully he will be good enough to take over for Lee.

hoffpauir should be on the team unless he completely bombs, which it doesn't look like will happen. if anything gathright should go away; hoffpauir is the best available bat off the bench, he hits lefty and can play the outfield corners (albeit not well). that's a lot more to offer than most of the other potential backups.
