It may seem stupid but it's the way things have been in the past.

for who? clemens isn't the same situation.

The rule has always been pretty explicit that a player has to be on the major league DL to be on your IR. Sheets will not be on the major league DL unless he's signed by a team.

I was going to draft him, but I had planned to carry him as a reserve until he was ready to pitch.

I'm assuming Sheets will be signed by opening day, which is why I planned on drafting him.

Crap, I should have taken Clay with my 7th rounder.

Give me a few minutes...

Let's see if you take the other guy I want...

If Sheets is signed by somebody before the season begins and placed on a major league DL then he's eligible for the DL in Roadkill. If he rehabilitates while being unsigned then he isn't eligible for a DL in Roadkill. The rule has always been (at least since I've been in the league) that a player must be on an MLB DL in order to be on a Roadkill DL.

that's stupid. he's hurt. he's not playing. the reason he's not on a roster is because he's hurt. it makes no sense that i can't keep him on my DL, but if he signs with a team tomorrow i can put him on the DL.

I'm not disagreeing with you, but that's how it's always been. It would certainly be unfair to change that rule now for this year after the draft has started, because someone would likely have taken him earlier in the draft if they knew they could put him on their DL. If he signs with somebody before the season starts and places him on a major league DL then you're OK.

C. Injured List

Any player on the major league disabled list may be included on a team’s injured list. The injured list may have as many as three players at any time.

I'll be unavailable the next few hours due to teaching classes; I'll be able to check in around 3:30 Eastern time to see if my turn has come up.

Nice pick with Liz. I would have loved to have kept him last year, but he ran out of minor league eligibility and I had no roster space during the playoff push.

btw - I'd still love one more pick this round if anyone wants to trade. :D

I don't think my other guy will last until I pick in the 10th.

Meh, I'd rather have had Clay.

I'm not disagreeing with you, but that's how it's always been.

but i can't remember this situation ever arising before...if sheets weren't a FA, it wouldn't even be an issue b/c he'd obviously be on the DL. if someone can point to me another injured guy who wasn't on a team at the start of the season, fine.

Why are you ignoring the rule itself?

Because he's in law school and is just getting practice for the future.

I don't understand how it's not cut and dry. Sheets is NOT on an ML roster, and thus isn't on the DL. Thus, you can't place him on the DL in Roadkill. Seems pretty straight forward to me.

and that guy for the giants isn't eligible at 3b, but you think he should get to be eligible there. that rule is also pretty cut and dry.

also, i'm not in law school.

i don't think the rule was written with such a situation in mind.

Keep digging yourself deeper. I've not seen any good argument yet from you with regards to how you can get around that rule.

what?

as far as good arguments go, i think it's pretty clear sandoval's not eligible at 3b by the way.

That may be true, but it is still a total strawman argument and does nothing but deflect from the point.

Posted
no, what was the question on sandoval? Tim, yes, same rule on IR. You can add/drop at will. once you legalize your roster, you can also make trades.

I'll take Bonderman.

I just asked how many games he has to play to be eligible at C. He played 11 last year in limited time in the majors, but didn't retain his eligibility there. Does he now have to play 10 at C to get eligibility? Also, if he's named the starting 3b for SF, will he be automatically eligible there, even though he didn't play any 3b last year.

yes, he needs to play 10 to get there this year. if he starts at 3b opening day, he is eligible there.

I belive you will be incorrect should he start the season there.. and this confirms it. So why again should you be able to place Sheets on the DL? Stop deflecting and give a reasonable answer.

Posted
well, don wants a special exemption to apply to his guy, but apparently not mine. if we're going by the exact wording of the rules, his guy's not eligible.
