Didn't we kind of go through this with Bonds as well?

I think Clemens is the closest analogue (which, to Adam's point, doesn't really fit). Bonds was on the SF roster when anybody cared about him.

so the rules strictly apply to sheets (even though the rule clearly wasn't worded like that to apply to situations like this), but not sandoval.

There have been quite a few instances in the past where players were granted instant availability at their positions when they came out of spring training as the designated starter at a new position.

I have the same thing with DeRosa, who's expected to play 3B with Cleveland. I drafted him with the intent of playing 2B, however, so unless Zimmerman starts the season injured and I want to slide DeRosa to third to fill in it's a non-issue with me.

which is not what the rules say. yet we're dissecting the language of the DL rule as it applies to sheets.

We're doing that because, whether or not intended that way, the wording of the rule is absolutely clear-cut. If we were going to change it based on interpretation that really needed to be done BEFORE the draft started, not after. It's certainly valid to discuss that for the future, but for this year it would be unfair to change it now because somebody else would have drafted him earlier if we changed the rule.

Where there is no precedent to use as a guideline, the rules tend to be interpreted more strictly. :)
